...But why should that be a surprise? Laws are for little people.

(35,320 posts)She cried for days.
In student government I shunted money away from things that I personally liked. In more than one case the "thing" died. The money was needed for something more in line with programming demands and the organization's mission statement and charter. Some previous officers had decided that the charter didn't matter and some purposes suited his tastes more.
I also fired an employee I liked. Nice person, friendly and agreeable, but with the work ethic of a fungus-ridden turnip. Couldn't show up on time. Couldn't stop talking on the phone.
As a teacher I fail students I personally like or send them to the office for a stiff talking to. I've also given really good grades to students who did the work and learned the material but whose personalities rubbed me so totally the wrong way that to this day I wince if I see them in school or on the street.
This isn't a personal or social "thing." It's just looking at what I thought the organization's purpose was, what the job requirements were, or what professional and ethical guidelines require. I don't let my personal likes and dislikes determine my professional duties. And, if my pet needs to be put down, I'll do so because it's a moral duty, whatever the emotional consequences are for me.

(19,841 posts)When an animal is suffering you have them euthanized. As far as I can see, Big Bird was not suffering.
