the "American Idol" Election: Last Wednesday, Mitt Romney was the latest bright, shiny object.

what's extremely disturbing is that the "American Idol" culture is taking over these debates and therefore the election. Gee, Romney smiled more and Obama looked down a few too many times. What the fuck, let's go ahead and make Romney the most powerful man in the world and jettison the guy who saved the country from another great depression, saved the American auto industry, doubled the Dow Jones, ended the war in Iraq, killed Osama Bin Laden, passed comprehensive health care reform, ended DADT, and managed to put two justices on the United States Supreme Court who are smart enough to know that corporations aren't people, money isn't speech, and democracy isn't a fucking auction.

We are a nation that gets fixated on the bright, shiny object right in front of us. Be it a new cell phone, a new reality show, a new celebrity scandal. Millions of people have this "born yesterday" syndrome, where nothing that's come before even matters. What happens in the six inches in front of our face -- here and now -- is everything. We're distracted, we obsess, and then we move onto the next thing that distracts and obsesses us. Half this country -- at least -- has the attention span of a three year-old in a sandbox.

Last Wednesday, Mitt Romney was the latest bright, shiny object.

If this country isn't bright enough to see how lucky we are to have this President, then we deserve our misery. We truly, truly do.
