Nixon beat McGovern in 1972 by more than ONE MILLION VOTES IN NEW YORK STATE ALONE! Reagan crushed Mondale in 49 states. When we win, with the exceptions of 1964 and FDR, it is a pitched battle to the end. "Dewey Beats Truman" anyone?
The thing to remember is that if there is an eight point differential, otherwise known as a 'landslide', 54-46, then only 4% have to change their vote and VOILA! different outcome...
This is never ever in the bag for many many reasons and optimism is OK, but overconfidence is fatal.
That being said, I don't believe for one minute that 7% of African-Americans changed their votes after the debate.

(1,575 posts)I believe that African Americans held steady as well as women held steady. Probably the only group that changed were "angry" white males. This group loves the bullying seen by Romney in the debate and will lie (cheat) at all costs to win.
