Many years ago I answered one of those calls. Poured my heart out, and then looked up the name of the company afterwards to find out it was Republican based. So they got all this free information on me, and probably saved money by withholding mailers which weren't going to go their way anyways.
And then, after I figured out I was living in a red county, for a long while I learned to dummy up about my politics. What I'm saying is, that many Democratic voters have learned to keep their opinions to themselves.
Any one here who makes those polling calls? What are you seeing out there? Is there more of an inclination for Democrats to hang up, than Republicans?

(2,479 posts)I hang up on automated calls. Now if it's a person, I usually listen for a while. If they want to ask me questions, I might wait and see.
Most calls are just political calls. I tend to hang up when I hear that static-free void at the beginning of a call, which is a sign of a predictive dialer, used by call centers.

(12,799 posts)Polls measure what they measure. I am never surprised that we make fun of Freepers when they agitate to unskew the numbers, but when our guy falls behind, we're quick to explain away and unskew the numbers.
You know what I think? I think there was probably more than one Obama voter polled after the debate who have no intention of ever voting for Mitt, but were so unhappy with Obama's performance that they registered their dissatisfaction via polls. I can't prove that, but my intuition tells me so.
Polls are snapshots. I am not surprised that the snapshots after the debate show what they show. I'm still confident of a win in November. That hasn't changed.

(3,596 posts)If they start by saying "I'm sure you'll agree that we need a strong leader like Newt Gingrich to move this country forward", I stay on the line. I asked them where they got my name. They said they didn't know but this was supposed to be a list of registered Republicans and those that have supported conservative causes in the past.
I told them I had never supported or contributed to Republican or conservative causes. In fact I said the only good Republican in my book is one that is dead and buried, period. I have no need for them.
They quickly hang up.
But if they call and want to ask me polling questions I wait to see how their questions will be asked....If they ask, "Do you approve with the President's plan to socialize our health care system? I hang up immediately.
But if they ask a more open question such as "Do you approve or disapprove of the Health Care Reform Law", I will answer yes and wait until they ask their next question. If their next question is, "Would your answer change if you understood that this law is the biggest takeover of health care in the nation's history that is the biggest tax increase?" I hang up...
It all depends on how the questions go.
