It won't enter my mind as to what their politics are. I won't care if I do know what their politics are. I will not forgo my humanity over politics. I will not become that which I deplore.

(12,253 posts)This is an ancient rule that supports all hospitality (at home or on the road) customs. Do your best at all times and help every time you get the chance. This is the tradition of my tribe and I need no more religion than this.

(37,748 posts)Lowest point in my life was during the '95-'97 era, and one of my best buds since HS (we're both 1984 grads) was always the first one to come by and see how I was doing, if I needed help, and more often than not, take me out for an evening of entertainment at his expense.
If I took one lesson away from that, it was to never predicate my judgements of an individual solely on mainstream American politics-- that would be a disservice to both myself, and to him.

(114,904 posts)The reason I felt compelled to post this is because of thread saying just the opposite with far too many posters concurring and it really disturbs me.

btw. I bought a bike. I will get it in two weeks. Unfortunately, it is manufactured in Asia, but I can't find anything that isn't these days. I really do try to buy bought in America but nothing made here was right for me.

(2,866 posts)Helped a guy stranded on the road with his Honda Shadow just the other day. Politics never entered my mind. Or the conversation. Karma happens.

I'm with you on this. Helping someone, to me, shouldn't be based on politics. It's based on human compassion.

(5,528 posts)Our interest in helping others should not exist because we think THEY are particularly good people.
It should exist because WE want to be.
I made sure to post this on the OTHER thread as well.
