religion?

Why, if the repubs were allowed to make such an ado over Kennedy being Catholic, and that basically the 'POPE' would be running this country, then why can't we talk about the preaching of the Mormons. That is, for centuries/decades the Mormons have been driven first by the church, second by the family, third by the country.
When the old predicted that a Mormon would become President, then the country will become a Mormon
STATE. Why aren't people researching the Mormon teachings and bringing this up? This is VASTLY more believable than what the GOP said about Kennedy/Pope!

and from Utah. Catholics were viewed as immigrants and suspicious foreigners. Catholics were largely viewed in the same way as Muslims today. Mormons have for decades pushed the agenda of being All American white bread and it is what Romney is running on now. They also didn't mind openly saying they didn't like black people which pushed Mormons up a big notch for some people.

That's why.

just over half of LDS are GOP. As a former member most members under the age of 60 are not racist at all - its a dying mindset in the church. It will still take a long time, but the mainstream members, especially out of Utah, are hardly racist. The Tea Party on the other hand... well we know all too well their racism.

is discussed, take that as an opportunity to attack religion in general. That often occurs as the atheism vs. religion fight, which then, of course, turns off ALL religious participants, so none of the comparative religious discussion happens.

I keep saying that atheists should consider staying out of it, because anything that they have to say about something that they claim doesn't exist, or that they do not believe in, in the first place, undercuts their own position.

The other problem is that it's kind of hard to compare BELIEFS for validity and reliability. Maybe more could be done with comparisons of the consequences of certain belief systems, but I don't know . . .

I personally consider the topic quite interesting, just don't know how productive it is on the average.

Hard to compare the validity of 'racism' vs 'antiracism'? Not to me it isn't. Racism, not valid, not matter what Goddy God tee shirt it is wearing.

Reason and consistency from people who would walk off the mythical edge of the earth just to prove a point? Perhaps we should just point them in the direction of a certain canyon in Arizona. That might be more doable.

AFAIK people didn't make an issue of Harry Reid's Mormonism when he was elected Senator. Or of Joe Lieberman's Judaism. There's lots of other stuff to attack Romney with.

Would you believe one claimed they were "more tolerant" of other people's religious beliefs than liberals are? Well for now, they tolerate Mormon beliefs.
