"Tell me, Archbishop, Pope, what purpose does the Church serve attempting to influence the affairs of a secular state? The federal benefits under law currently denied gay couples certainly fall under the realm of Caesar, dont they? No one is forcing the Catholic Church to marry gay couples if that is not the Churchs wish. You can keep the sanctity of Catholic marriage solely between heterosexual couples if you feel that is whats required (again though, I caution you on the dangers of presumed infallibility). All we are asking is for you to extend the open hand of tolerance instead of the closed fist of fear and hate.
"As American citizens, we respect the right for everyone to practice whichever religion they so choose, including the right to not practice one at all. Havent we learned enough from the Crusades, the Inquisitions, the Talibans of the world? What does it benefit the Church to attempt to influence secular policy in this country, especially when that influence is to deny basic human rights to others? Will you now assume Caesars throne, grasping the transitory ephemera of worldly power and control, while forsaking the eternal kingdom of Heaven?" -
Vikings punter Chris Kluwe, firing back at Minnesota Archbishop John Nienstadt's advice to reject gay children.

As a punter, does he really have to wear all that gear? Couldn't he wear like, soccer shorts or something, ... smaller?

Would be great if the jints also had a player to stand up to the homophobes. Instead, they had that Shockey prick for a couple years.

ESPN writer Kevin Seifert recently described Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe this way: "Kluwe would fit in perfectly in a group of impossibly smart California mensas who spend half their time working out and (most of) the rest playing video games." Which leads us to believe Kluwe's either the nerdiest player in the NFL, and/or the most athletic nerd in history.

(229 posts)Personally, I think that Chris should either enter politics or become an educator after his stint in the majors. He's quite intelligent and has a grasp of real world issues.
He's also masterful in getting his point across.

So don't tell that to his wife though I think she would appreciate it and understand. Oh her brother is gay ... so that helps explain her husband fighting for the cause for her brother.

I'll just let that sink in for a few seconds.
Now to you rabid Viking fans, calm the hell down. I know they are 4-1 and playing well, and my commitment to the team is evidenced by the number of Viking players (6 incl the defense) on my FFL team.

(6,012 posts)Beware, reading the following excerpt may induce vomiting...
It should come as no surprise that the National Football League supports the right of its players to share their opinions on important public matters, nor should it come as a surprise that I personally support my colleagues' rights to voice their opinions.
But the conversation during the last few weeks on the subject of same-sex marriage has told a different story -- one that appears to be drawing a false connection between supporting true American values like free speech and the institution of marriage, our most fundamental and important social institution.
I think it is important to set the record straight about what the marriage debate is and is not about, and to clarify that not all NFL players think redefining marriage is a good thing.
The union of a man and a woman is privileged and recognized by society as "marriage" for a reason, and it's not because the government has a vested interest in celebrating the love between two people. With good reason, government recognizes marriages and gives them certain legal benefits so they can provide a stable, nurturing environment for the next generation of citizens: our kids.

So, Chris, dear, you missed one. Right over our dear pope's head it went. He 's not into spirit, they haven't been for a good 1800 years or so, he's a shit. That's all. FUll of traumatized, tortured, murdered souls who went down under his thumb, for no good reason.
You missed.
