RESTRICT ACCESS TO ABORTIONS. JUst had to shout this hypocrisy.
Mitt Romney said Tuesday he has no plans to push for legislation limiting abortion, a softer stance from a candidate who has said he would "get rid of" funding for Planned Parenthood and appoint Supreme Court who would overturn Roe v. Wade.
Theres no legislation with regards to abortion that Im familiar with that would become part of my agenda, the Republican presidential nominee told The Des Moines Register in an interview.
His statement could put him at odds with congressional Republicans who have made limiting abortion central to their messages. His own running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), has introduced bills to restrict access to abortion. And the Republican Party platform toughened its anti-abortion stance earlier this year.
Both Romney and Ryan oppose abortion, but the presidential candidate supports exemptions while his running mate does not. Romney told the Register he will restrict abortion in one way, through an executive order banning U.S. foreign aid money to be used for abortions.
Romney has previously vowed to end taxpayer money for Planned Parenthood, one of the most common ways in which Republicans have tried to restrict access to abortion. "Planned Parenthood, we're going to get rid of that," he said in March, referring to budget cuts he would make as president.
Romney said in September that he would prefer to appoint justices to the Supreme Court that would oppose Roe v. Wade.

(26,044 posts)He won't "push legislation" limiting abortion, but he won't veto it if it is passed by others. And, of course, he'll appoint SCOTUS justices who will overturn Roe v. Wade.

(21,925 posts)He should completely ignore anything Romney says and tell the American people he's only debating the Mitt Romney who's been running for President for the last six years. I would just ignore Romney as though he weren't even there and simply recite Romney's previous positions. Then I would tell the public that when Romney receive treatment for his multiple personality disorder a-la-Sybil they might have a real debate.

I wonder what tomorrow will bring! Maybe he'll change his religion. Or his name! He could get rid of Mitt. Maybe become "Robert." Robert is a nice name.
Edit: Maybe not "Robert" with "Romney".

(3,596 posts)but he felt he needed to "gin" up the base with salivating Bible-thumping hatred of women, women's rights, etc.
Now as he sees his dream of sitting in the Oval Office in his magic underwear fading, he is turning about face on every position he took in the primary and 2/3 of the general campaign.
What a lying sack of shit. And if he thinks for one minute that Ryan would, as Vice President, sit out taking a tie-breaking vote in the Senate to rob women of ANY right (equal pay, right to make decisions about their bodies, etc.) he is more stupid than we think which isn't saying much.

(1,727 posts)so Roe v. Wade could be overturned? Oh wait, that was yesterday's news. We should have a contest similar to guessing how many jelly beans are in a jar - but with a twist - how many times Romney will change his positions between his nomination and Nov. 6th. But, you can be sure that if he is elected, he will be anti abortion, pro tax cuts for the rich and sock it to the middle class and all those who wish to be middle class. If the citizens want jobs, they can volunteer for the military so Romney and the neocons can have even more wars we can't possibly pay for now or in the future no matter how many cuts he makes to the average citizens' lives. We all know where Romney stands even if he claims he does not in a thousand different ways.

(3,056 posts)My freakin' neck is killing me from the whiplash. Has this lying SOB ever taken a stand on anything that he actually stayed with? Of course, his statement of, "I don't know what I said, but I stand by it, whatever it was" is the exception. If he has NO idea what he said, then he'll back it up?
The fact that this guy is above 10% in polling is beyond my comprehension.

(1,828 posts)Seriously we need a slew if ads just showing Mitt saying one thing, then the opposite.
However, the point on this isn 't that he won't seek legislation, but that he'll quite obviously screw us thru the Supremes. Because there's no way Ginsburg will stay for four more years, and I hate to think about what kind of freak show Mitt would inflict on us!

No, they'll never outlaw abortion. Threatening abortion rights is one of their biggest selling items. It NEVER fails to get votes.
What else do they have to run on?
