If you get basic TV (like I do ) with Cablevision (because their minimum monthly TV package is $97) you can no longer get basic TV without a 'new' cable box, which is FREE for ONE YEAR. ONE YEAR. After a year, you pay for EACH box. Right now to watch TV on three TV/monitors, it's $12.95 a month. Besides the EXTRA POWER DRAW from the box even when turned off, they want an additional $13.70 for both boxes and remote after the first year.
Money grubbing fucks. I can get satellite for $30 a month.
So I told the woman at Cablevision I don't want the TV service any more. She then tells me I have to speak to the disconnect department to turn it off. I have been on hold for 40+ minutes. She was the pusher pushing boxes into people's houses, now I get to speak to the closers trying to keep me from disconnecting.
I fucking hate them with a passion.

(2,391 posts)If I could get sports online, I'd stick with our Roku. Love it! Need sports.

No box, no TV, stop charging me, and they suck at closing, no special deals at all.
They are so fucking stupid. My nice Sony fractionalized channels, so I FOUND 2-13 on channels 194.2. etc in HD through 195. Problem solved. Free TV, no box, no cost. They can't pull the cable out of the apartments.
Fuck them.

(32,139 posts)is that all the people trying to save money by streaming through Hulu on the net or on Roku instead of buying cable will be screwn because...
1. Hulu plans to require people to prove they purchase cable in order to use the service
and
2. ISP's plan to change their pricing structures to charge by use...so people who watch a lot of video online will pay a lot more.
Remember when TV was free? And remember when cable first came on the scene? We were told that, since we would be paying for the cable service, there would be no commercials in the programming.
Now the number of commercials keeps increasing even for services that you PAY to use on the internet that you also PAY to use. Hulu Plus keeps adding commercials and reducing user features. And the networks are getting outrageous. TVLand now sometimes runs THREE (typically 30-minute) sitcoms in a two-hour period instead of four, with up to 20 commercials in a row.
I am sure the day will soon come when you cannot sit on the toilet without first hearing a commercial.
