Listening to MSNBC discussing the documentary. Obviously this has been in the works for awhile but I prefer my version where Sesame St gets its revenge:

(2,391 posts)I am soooooo looking forward to that. It's an important part of Willard's life, especially since he supposedly revels in his family history.
Tonight on PBS from 8pm-10pm Central.

(3,526 posts)First, Romney:
"After his family line hopped the pond to America, Romney's great-grandfather, Miles Park Romney, became the first of Romney's ancestors to practice polygamy, having four wives and 30 children."
And next, Obama:
"Obama also has polygamy in his family history. His dad, Barack Obama Sr., descended from the Luo tribe in Kenya where polygamy was common. Obama's grandfather had at least four wives and his great-grandfather had five, the Washington Post's David Maraniss reported."
And a second article:
George Romney, born on polygamist colony, touted as immigrant success
"The Romney familys polygamous roots are deep and include some of the most prominent families in the fledgling Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The faith officially banned polygamy in 1890.
Mitt Romneys great-grandfather, Miles Park Romney, was a Mormon polygamist with five wives, who fled to Mexico to escape a crackdown on the practice of polygamy in the late-1800s and established a settlement there.
George Romney was born to parents who were not polygamous in Mexico in 1907, but returned to the United States when George Romney was 5 years old to escape the Mexican Revolution. He went on to become the head of American Motors and governor of Michigan."

(3,596 posts)it is such a tiny, tiny share of the budget as to be laughable. The GOP has succeeded over the past 20 years in whittling down their budget so that that majority of funding comes from "consumers", those that donate during pledge drives, etc.
One thing is for sure.....the likes of Big Bird and many of the other quality programs would never have seen the light of day if they were dependent on whether or not they would bring in the big bucks or any bucks at all.
We need the "independence" (I use that term loosely because I have seen the slant of PBS move toward the right) of PBS to give us more in-depth reporting and great programming.
Even if Robme were to destroy the PBS budget I think there are enough sane people to ante up and sustain the programming. My only requirement before I would contribute would be that no Republican could ever subscribe to PBS without a 1,000,000% surcharge to their subscription.
