"Remarkably, self-described independents accounted for nearly half of all voters Tuesday a piece of data which has implications for November. Paul won 32 percent of independents, with Romney getting 29 percent, and Huntsman picking up 23 percent of them."

I'm supposing that this is due to Libertarians showing up and voting for Ron Paul in a Republican primary, or is that too simple a supposition?

(10,000 posts)After 2008 and 2010, a lot of Americans are just burned out on politics and bitter at both parties.

I'm kind of tired of the "Lets repeat it till it comes true" prediction that
it will be a close election and that Americans are into Pox on both houses....
To equate Pres. Obama with the clowns lying on him everyday
is rather cynical.....and won't help us in anyway, IMO.

(10,000 posts)To me, it's not a "let's repeat it until it comes true" prediction. I simply think it's going to be very close. I think Obama will win, but I think it will be razor thin.
I live in a right of center part of the country in which the President is not terribly popular (he's more popular in Omaha and Lincoln than in rural Nebraska). But even in Iowa, which is always up for their role as first caucus holder, I saw very little of the earmarks of enthusiasm from those on the political right. For example, I'll see a car with pro-gun and anti-Obama stickers, but seldom do I see that car with a "Gingrich" sticker. It's far more likely to have a "McCain/Palin" sticker. I see stickers that say "Sarah" (to date - a non candidate). I've seen a couple of Cain stickers, a couple of Gingrich stickers, and one Romney sticker. I see a few "Obama 12" stickers, but by-the-by I still see more Obama '08 stickers. My point here is that I just don't see the right fired up like they were in 2010 over the Tea Party, and I don't see Dems or the left fired up like they were in 2008 for Obama and Hillary.
