Today I joined the ranks of the unemployed. Silverchair laid off 20% of their workers, including me

I am 55 and have never left a job unless it was my decision before. Interesting day, though. I am okay, and am looking forward to using my free time to volunteer for Obama. I have four good leads and will send resumes to each tomorrow, then will be off to volunteer.
and of course I will spend time networking and shipping out resumes each day until I find a new job.

I'm glad you feel okay. I'm also glad that the economy is ticking up. This kind of thing is never great news but at least this isn't four or two years ago. Four good leads already is pretty awesome!!!!

If your last day was Thursday, you may be able to apply on the last Friday of your severance, save another week.
