Wisconsin marks another first for Democrats in the nation.
Just ran across this in an old newspaper. Elizabeth died in 1950 at age 91 years.
MRS. GEORGE BASS, THIS CITY TO BE FIRST WOMAN ORGANIZER OF
POLITICAL PARTY IN THE U.S.A.
Manitowoc Woman To Be Named By Democrats To Head Permanent Womans
Bureau Which National Committee Will Establish
To be the first woman organizer of a political party in the United
States is the distinction which Mrs. George Bass, of this city will
enjoy, announcement being made from Washington that Mrs. Bass will
be appointed head of a womans bureau which the democratic national
committee will establish and maintain as a permanent situation for
work among women voters in equal suffrage states. Mrs. Bass will
organize and direct a campaign of education of women in the tenets
of the democratic party in preparations for the congressional
elections in the equal suffrage states in 1918 and for the
presidential candidate in 1920.
