Complete and utter bullshit article from Forbes.John Tamny, Forbes Staff - About halfway through last nights debate between Congressman Paul Ryan and Vice President Joe Biden, the VPs answers and his unsteady countenance revealed someone who felt hed lost. Bidens pre-debate spin was that he would enter in attack mode, eager to make up for his bosss universally panned performance the week before.
The problem for Biden was that Ryan drew blood fairly early, thus making any attacks seem desperate. In that case, wobbly after a few blows from Ryan that he couldnt effectively answer, Bidens tone took on a yelling quality; the yelling an attack substitute for substantive points that he was unable to make.
Compare this to Congressman Ryan. Whether viewers agreed with him or not, he seemed bigger than the debate, and his slightly unhinged partner. Whatever the question, Ryan had a quick answer or answers, and replies came in a calm, measured tone.
Even worse for Biden, and one can imagine President Obama cringing from afar, as Ryan scored points, Biden took to laughing in an uncontrollable way. Well aware that he lacked a mind quick enough to respond to the myriad jabs of his more nimble competitor, Biden presumably felt his laughs and smirks would effectively communicate what he couldnt in terms of words, and well-crafted arguments.

(297,428 posts)I would have thought with a name like "Forbes" they wouldn't want to be known for propaganda that would make Goebbels proud, as they say.

(31,834 posts)Did not watch the same debate I did. Biden spent an hour and a half fact checking. No blood was drawn by Ryan . . . Biden on the other hand invited us to sit down and chat with him.

Its about time these guys got some of their nonsense tossed back in their face, and I think it was prudent that you took the role of corrector in chief rather than the President this time.
Nice work buddy, thanks for fighting the good fight.

Dont let Forbes, or the 1 percenters fool you, you 120 million, 47 percenter, Seniors and Women voters. And for goodness sake, dont let these puppet-like, ridiculous Republicans, in the true spirit of George Bush Jr. give you the proverbial finger. Ryan not only lost the debate, he was ingloriously, flattened!
Cover your assets, he debated emptier than a toilet paper roll.

I couldnt disagree more, John. Vice President Biden tactfully and emphatically called Ryan on all of the lies, misdirection and simplification he offered. I do agree that it was clear Ryan was stuck promoting economic policies he does not believe in and which he knows dont stand up to arithmetic (not mathematics, arithmetic).
Furthermore, Biden was the only person on that stage who demonstrated the knowledge and consideration to be the president if needed (save perhaps for Raddatz who also did an excellent job of keeping the two debaters specific).

Its actually quite interesting the author viewed the debate as he did. I suspect he is trying to rewrite history by saying Ryan won. Perhaps he is trying the balance those who see how well Biden performed. Well, as was said recently, John Tamny, you are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.

I don't know what debate he was watching. I notice it took him a 3 hours to come up with his story line, though.

(7,712 posts)John Tamny: Ryan the safest pick for Romney
... for an election about a sagging economy, no one is better-suited than Ryan when it comes to simplifying what is really quite simple: economic growth. Ryan knows intimately that economic growth is an incredibly basic function of removing the tax, trade, regulatory and monetary barriers to production. Because he does, he was the only choice for Mitt Romney, and his selection greatly boosts Romney's odds versus President Obama on Nov. 6.
