Only 3% of small businesses report over $250,000 in earnings. I love that he said it, I love that he stressed it. And I live that he pointed out that Hedge Funds can qualify as "small businesses" due to accounting procedures. Republicans love to talk about how this or that "hurts small businesses" even though those same measures help middle class Americans. At least 97% of the time, small business and middle class describe the exact same people When Democrats defend the interests of middle class Americans, we defend the interests of small business owners, period. Republicans love to fudge that equation over a tiny percentage of people who qualify as small business owners who may have taxes go up (on their income OVER $250,000 only). Biden did not let them get away with it this time. We need more of that from leading Democrats.

(10,942 posts)while warning it about the siren song that is Romney/Ryan. By all measures, Biden put on a masterful performance. One of the greatest debate performance in history, worthy of Lincoln in debates. Lincoln had a technique for ridiculing his opponent while at the same time de-constructing their arguments with facts. Uncle Joe pulled us back from jumping off a ledge last night, he pulled the nation back from that same jump. Let's go forward and win the Presidency and races across the country, for us and for the nation.

(23,973 posts)As far as I am concerned, my taxes can be raised without impacting me in any real significant way.
An astute business owner makes adjustments to his plan to accommodate the changing regulatory, tax, and economic climate, or will either stop being successful or flat-out fail.
If my tax rate increases, I will then seek to ameliorate the amount paid by investing in upgrading my physical plant, which is encouraged by the tax code.
I buy new equipment, which creates demand and jobs, as a result I get more efficient, and I get a new round of tax depreciation to offset earnings.
Win/win, all around.
Only an idiot for a businessman doesn't understand this.

(22,913 posts)The Republican Party underestimates millions of Americans who do not knee jerk oppose paying fair taxes to live in a country with values and priorities that we all can be proud of. Actually they can read the polls as well as anyone else. They already know that most Americans would even consider paying a little bit more if that would save the economic safety net that 80% of our citizens count on being there should they ever need it. It's a subset of the 1% who are intellectually dishonest about Americans willingness to pay fair taxes to keep our people healthy, our public schools funded, our seniors cared for, our infrastructure competitive for the 21st century, and those truly in need kept from going under.
