Mr. Romney, I was nearly one of those people who died in their apartment

because of not having insurance.

I was in my 20s, and had no insurance because I was paying student loans. I had some mild stomach pain, and odd looking stools but didn't think it was urgent enough to go to a doctor.

I went to the ER for x-rays for shoulder pain after someone rear ended my car, only because I knew that my car insurance would cover it. I left with pain meds but nearly passed out outside the ER, and my friend insisted I go back.

An ER nurse looked me up and down, asked a few questions, and said, "You have a GI bleed - we're getting blood work done on you."

It took two units of blood and a 5 days stay in the hospital to stabilize me.

If I had not had that accident, or I had made it home and taken those pain meds, I would have bled out from those ulcers that night in my apartment - because I decided to be a good citizen and pay my student loans instead of health insurance.

...and the hospital refused to set up a payment plan, and immediately turned it over to a collection agency. 10 years paying off that bill was 10 years I couldn't put money away for retirement.

Companies dropped guaranteed pensions, but average wages did not go up. Too many people are trying to simultaneously pay off student loans, gather a down payment and/or pay a mortgage, save for retirement and set aside some money for their kids' college funds. As has been said in another context, the math just doesn't work!

Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney aren't just liars and idiots, they are indifferent to the suffering of tens of millions.

antibiotics and your ulcer would have been taken care of. Instead, I'm guessing you had all that plus the 5 days in the hospital. That's an example of why it costs more all around when people can't get insurance.

A kindly doctor gave me 3 month's worth of RX Prilosec, which was $180 worth of meds at that time.

If I had gone in when I first noticed the symptoms, I could have gotten a rx for acid block and monitored blood in stool.

after going back and looking at it again I see that it was the posters experience (not Rmoney) and he was addressing Mr. Rmoney to illustrate the problem.

Romney would have just sold some more stock, paid the doctor and never mentioned this again.

In fact, my GP doctor will not even accept an uninsured person as a patient, so many people could not even get a doctor's appointment even if they were willing to pay for it themselves.

So instead, things that could be easily treated become major health risks. What are they thinking???
