i listened to the debate, live streaming, while reading du and doing some work. didn't actually SEE it.
i was actually stunned at the disconnect with many of the negative posts i was reading.
to my EAR, obama came off fine. rmoney came off as a complete ass, both in tone and substance.
but obama SOUNDED calm, coherent, caring, logical, reasonable, responsive, engaging -- everything we all found attractive qualities in 2008.
there were some posts about him "looking down". it wasn't clear to me whether that meant emotionally (depressed) or literally down, perhaps to read his notes.
was that the difference? were there some facial expressions that made the difference? because i though obama won no contest.
i feel like this was perhaps a bit of a replay of the classic kennedy/nixon debate, where people who listened on the radio thought nixon won, but people who saw his sweaty face thought he lost.

(6,622 posts)Because I was in a little cabin in the north woods with no electricity, but thankfully a cell signal. I was disappointed with Obama's performance. I thought he sounded lackluster, and let RMoney get away with one lie after the next. I also cringed when he said that he and RMoney actually have similar positions on Medicare and Social Security.
I think that debate gave the right-leaning independents reason to consider RMoney more seriously.

He made some incredibly important points. I was quite surprised at the big "Romney won" news and even more surprised that the media didn't seem interested in what they actually said.

(52,277 posts)i couldn't give a rat's behind about what a president looks like or sounds like.
he can pick his nose and fart in a debate for all i care.
just so long as he's effective in advancing policies that actually help the country.
i'd much rather have that than a president who fit the image and led us off a cliff.
