A friend on facebook posted some graphic about Obama running on stopping the wars saying he started new ones. What the heck are they talking about? Any help appreciated.

(154,021 posts)They think that is an actual war. And it was, but the only casualty for the US was a DRONE choper.

(9,933 posts)I remember years of those on the right calling the left soft on terrorism and being perfectly comfortable with the patriot act, water boarding and warrantless wiretapping. Funny thing is the same poster went on to say Biden wrote the patriot act.

(28,870 posts)He continued the Bush two, with Iraq somewhat wound down.
He's supposed to wind down Afghanistan by 2014.
On his own, he has waged aggression in Yemen, Pakistan, and
Libya.

(27,787 posts)We are out of Iraq. That WAR is over.
Afghanistan is shutting down.
And unless you have evidence that we have thousands of BOOTS ON THE GROUND ... you can not call the others war.
You also left out our efforts in Eqypt and Syria ... so you, if you want to be consistently wrong, you should be claiming we are up to 7 wars now, not 5.

(47,675 posts)The "War Powers Act" has been abused too many times. Yes, I'm an isolationist. I'm a mix of cultural conservative, nationalist, isolationist, social liberal, Constitutional purist, and currently aligned with the Democratic Party (NOT the "Democrat Party" - that doesn't exist).
Obama hasn't even used the War Powers Act. The shrub did. Obama got our troops out of Iraq. He'll get them out of Afghanistan. rMoney would just put more into Afghanistan, try to re-ignite Iraq, throw them into Iran, and probably Pakistan, Libya, and Syria. My potential son-in-law just got promoted to Specialist in the guard. I don't want to see him shipped off as cannon fodder.
although they don't call them "wars", congress has approved every significant engagement we have been in since WW2 (Korea, Vietnam, Iraq 1, Iraq 2, Afghanistan, etc.).
The only ones I can think of they didn't approve are Cambodia under Nixon, and some smaller engagements (Bosnia, Panama, Libya, Reagan's bombing of Libya), all of which (except Bosnia) we were in and out of within the time frame of the war powers act.

(73,577 posts)I absolutely share the Democratic Left's dislike of much of President Obama's tactics in a number of countries where there is an increase in US military aggression. But the truth is that the US has had a military presence in all of these countries way before Barack Obama took office. More, the "private" corporate forces have been in those same countries for many years. President Obama has merely been more public about US military activity.

(27,711 posts)...is in the process of finishing a war in Afghanistan (if you didn't get the message Karzai, we are leaving).
President Obama will continue to pursue those who would murder Americans in acts of terrorism.

(9,933 posts)Thought maybe I missed something but can see from all the great responses here that clearly it was just more fact modification and history rewrites that the right enjoys.
