Wichita Eagle Sunday front page: "The Kochs' Quest to Save America" (4,768 words)

Source: Wichita Eagle

... Two years of condemnations and criticism prompted Charles Koch to break his silence about politics. In his most extensive interview in 15 years, Charles Koch, along with his family and friends, talked about why he wants to defeat Obama and elect members of Congress who will stop what he calls catastrophic overspending. Government recklessness threatens the country and his business, he said.

... The Kochs aren’t finished. Win or lose in November, they plan to start a new fight. They are organizing dozens of business and grassroots groups to build support for eliminating all corporate and agricultural subsidies.

... “The Koch political machine is the most elaborate, comprehensive financial dip into American politics since Standard Oil and the robber barons a century ago,” said Larry Jacobs, a political scientist at the University of Minnesota.

... Bill Allison, a campaign finance expert with the Sunlight Foundation in Washington, D.C., ... said: “What we’re seeing this time around is an escalation of scale. The Citizens United decision has legitimized this kind of spending in a way it was never legitimized before. Soros was interviewed by lawyers for the FTC asking why he had given the money and about possible campaign finance violations. With Citizens United, you’ll never see that kind of scrutiny again.”

Grassroots, by definition, aren't organized by people like the Kochs. But astroturf groups are.

eliminating the agricultural subsidies. As agriculture goes so goes the state. That should finally wake them up.

but putting it away until tomorrow. Way too much that I don't want to know about but have to know about. They have so many small businesses here in Kansas and probably elsewhere, everything is split up into small groups and now because of that in Kansas they will no longer have to pay state taxes by next year I think.

Brownback LOVES these guys. Between Brownback and the Kochs our entire state government is not only beholden to them but they were put where they are to further their agenda. It sucks living here now.

Will read tomorrow when I have the time and the brain to get through it. Too late now to absorb much and really, I would like to have nice dreams and this article would probably not lead in that direction.

Eliminating agricultural subsidies, especially this year with the extreme nature of the drought in 90% of the state, this will go over well but then there is nobody else to vote for so the farmers can just weep about it and blame those non existent Democrats and cast their vote for a Koch beholden Republican like they always do.
