It has been "Omaha Steve " for over 25 years of computing

Marta and I were cutting edge BEFORE the internet with a BBS, PC Pursuit, etc...

PC Pursuit

In the late 1980s, Telenet offered a service called PC Pursuit. For a flat monthly fee, customers could dial into the Telenet network in one city, then dial out on the modems in another city to access bulletin board systems and other services. PC Pursuit was popular among computer hobbyists because it sidestepped long-distance charges. In this sense, PC Pursuit was similar to the Internet.

In the pre-Internet days, PC Pursuit was the greatest thing ever. I spent many hours going through lists of Amiga BBSs from access cities, test-dialing each to find out if they were in the right calling zones, building up my own personal collection of new boards...

In the latter days of PC-P, I was heavily involved in The Audiophile Network, a fantastic collection of audio nuts (including writers and editors at the major magazines -- we used to hold an informal annual get-together at CES in Las Vegas every January), which was conveniently located in a PC-P zone. They had software that would allow you to log in, download all the new messages, read and reply to them off-line, then upload your replies the next time you logged-on. What with most of us calling in several times a night, it was the closest thing to a web-forum like this I've ever known. Sadly, TAN never survived the Internet age, mainly because the admin, unwilling to abandon his BBS users, waited too long to switch over to a website format and, by the time he did, most of the previous members had moved on. Still, it was quite a time, while it lasted...
