This was found on Crooks & Liars: Update: This is a statement directly from the now unemployed Sensata workers in Illinois:
"There seems to be some confusion about whether or not our Sensata plant took down our American flag and replaced it with the Chinese flag. Here is the truth. Sensata took down our American flag on the day they flew in our Chinese replacements that we were forced to train. They put our American flag back up after the Chinese workers left. They never flew the Chinese flag."

BUT they compounded the insult by putting the Chinese flag in the middle, and higher than the American flag. They is disgraceful.

(16,926 posts)The flag seen flying near the chain-link fence was placed there by protesters. The gentleman who speaks of "the thing that was most humiliating for me" says that the week before they (the Chinese replacement workers) came, they took the American flag down, and the week after they left they put it back up. Again, no mention of any Chinese flag. The image of the Sensata plant is of one located in Baoying, China.

It it is there on the video.

(365 posts)and the Chinese flag raised above it, at that Bain plant, in
ILLINOIS!

(53,339 posts)Like your video link, the SD Free Press story makes NO mention of a Chinese flag being raised.
ywcachieve
(365 posts)LOL.. Both stories mention a Chinese flag being raised and then lowered when the Chinese workers left, after being trained by American workers who were being fired. So you are the one who do not comprehend what you are reading and watching on video.
But have a good day. BYE!

Multiple posters have pointed out to you that the video contains no such statement about a Chinese flag being raised.
And this is the one and only reference to a flag in the SD Free Press story:
Again, there is absolutely no mention of a CHINESE flag.
Read the workers' statement in the OP again: "They never flew the Chinese flag."

(16,926 posts)Your link either doesn't point to the video with the flag statement, or you're hearing things. Please post the time (3:12, etc.) in the video where this statement is made, or just admit you goofed.

(8,434 posts)is a plant in China.
I'm not saying none of the outsourcing is going on, or that lives aren't being destroyed by this entire situation.
I'm specifically referring to your post about the flags that is incorrect.
Take a look at the OP again. These are workers at the Illinois plant that are being screwed by this process, but even they say the Chinese flag was not flown at the Illinois plant, only that the US flag was removed.

(23,545 posts)with a Chinese flag. Sorry to say that without that visual, the media will probably see this as no different than any other plant closing that they don't care about.
It's too bad.

(31,823 posts)For posting this. Al Sharpton had a union leader guest from an entirely different line of business on his program Friday night. That guy stated the myth portion of the story and Sharpton's FB page lit up with indignant people.
The truth is they lowered the US flag - insult enough - they did not raise a Chinese one.
BumRushDaShow
(129,025 posts)um, "that guy" was Lee Saunders who heads AFSCME representing 1.6 million union members and had been contacted by people there and wanted to put the issue out there about the outsourcing and the Bain connection. And as the head of the union affiliated with AFL-CIO, he was standing up for other unions.
So your post is disingenuous.

JustAnotherGen
(31,823 posts)Watch it. I was watching real time and reached out to Al on fb and via email. That gut clearly stated that after they room down the US flag they raised a Chinese one.
It's simply not true.
And saying I'm being disengenuos is tantamount to questioning my commitment to progressive values.
We tell the truth - we don't speak out of our assese. Speaking of asses - it was an assery move to take the US Flag down in that circumstance. Those people have been humiliated enough. And that's the story.
BumRushDaShow
(129,025 posts)and since Lee is based in D.C., he was passing on info that had been told to him.
Whether this info was exactly as has been discovered or not, there is that video in this and other threads that distinguishes the plant in China from the IL plant where there WAS a Chinese flag - shown by a fence at street level (NOT the same one from that Chinese plant) - that was supposedly up while the Chinese workers who were visiting to be trained, were there.
Your whole post and response is ass-hattery to the max considering the point is to get info out there about yet another plant closing thanks to Bain chicanery and how Rmoney will ultimately profit from it. This thing obsessing over a fucking flag is bullshit. It's the workers and the Bain connection that is important.
So just fucking chill.

(48,981 posts)there was no Chinese flag flying over the Sensata plant in Freeport. And I saw people doing the same on Daily Kos.
The mistaken belief that a Chinese flag was raised over the plant in Freeport apparently came from people watching the Steelworkers video and not realizing that the plants shown with a Chinese flag flying were the Chinese plants they were talking about in the video at that point.

(3,056 posts)this whole story is disgusting. The whole thing...the flag, American jobs going to China, everything. But can someone please explain to me how a person can be forced to train their replacement? What's the worse case scenario if you don't? You'll get fired? They had to have held severance pay over their heads, which only gives more credence to the belief that that these are heartless bastards we're dealing with. And we're supposed to trust them to regulate themselves.

(3,056 posts)does your friend still have a job with NV Energy? Was she just put somewhere else in the company, or let go? My sister went through something "similar, but different"...had to let her assistant go, take on the work herself, with no bump in pay. My beef is with the corporations that are forcing American workers to train their (foreign) replacements. Like I said, they must be holding severance pay over their heads to make them do this, otherwise why would anyone go through it? It's like that guy in the commercial saying how they had to build the stage from which Bain execs told them their jobs were gone. Had they known that was going to be the case, would they have done it, or told the new masters to go fuck themselves?
BTW, where do you guys live? I'm outside of LV in the Moapa Valley...the Reid-Gardner power plant is about 8 miles down the road.
crunch60
(1,412 posts)well, "similar but different". She was let go, not put somewhere else within NV Energy.
She will be collecting unemployment and one or two weeks severance pay. Do not know about her health benefits.
CEO Michael Yackira has decimated the work force within NV Energy, and also Nevada energy consumers. He is a head hunter, and is rewarded handsomely for his "downsizing" They are also a corporation that is a member of ALEC.
http://www.corporitics.com/corporations/288-nv-energy.html
NV Energy is a public electric and natural gas utility serving 1.5 million customers and over 40 million tourists annually in Nevada. It was founded in 1928 and is based in Las Vegas, Nevada. The CEO is Michael Yackira.
According to SourceWatch, they are a member of ALEC.
She lives in LV

(45,487 posts)By custom, the US is the highest and other flags, state, local, foreign, or special purpose (MIA, corporate, etc) fly lower than the US flag.
Whenever the Toronto Blue jays play a US team, major league baseball flies the US and Canadian flags. Same is true at soccer matches, etc. I used to go to a summer camp that had an international group visiting the US each summer. The camp would flag the visitors flag along side the US flag. Italian, German, and Irish restaurants flag their respective flags. There are probably dozens or more instances.
benld74
(9,904 posts)pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)But people do display foreign flags here all the time, not as a sign of allegiance but as a salute to their heritage. What would a St. Patrick's Day parade be without Irish flags? What about ethnic or national-themed restaurants and bars?
And don't forget that place in NYC that has LOTS of foreign flags...

(42,290 posts)Why would they put up a Chinese flag in the first place?
The replacement workers are no dignitaries or even important people. They're probably just low-level engineers, techs or supervisors.
And for a company like Bain that doesn't even respect American workers, why would they respect the Chinese workers?
Unless there are pics, let this drop.

(7,044 posts)Republicans are trying to dodge responsibility for Sensata. But it is the "ethics" of Romeny and his Republican cronies, and their depraved 'corporate culture' that caused this.
