http://azstarnet.com/news/national/govt-and-politics/black-voters-loyalty-to-obama-raises-racism-issue/article_be8547ec-d684-5041-8bdb-2000a58ee033.htmlThere it is, right in the first paragraph: "SOME ARE SAYING." Sheesh! And they even use the n-word, uncensored (I've dashed it out below), near the top of the story.
Surviving slavery, segregation and discrimination has forged a special pride in African-Americans. Now some are saying this hard-earned pride has become prejudice in the form of blind loyalty to President Obama.
Are black people supporting Obama mainly because he's black? If race is just one factor in blacks' support of Obama, does that make them racist? Can blacks' support for Obama be compared with white voters who may favor his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, because he's white?
These questions have long animated conservatives who are frustrated by claims that white people who oppose Obama's policies are racist. Last week, when a black actress who tweeted an endorsement of Romney was subjected to a stream of abuse from other African-Americans, the politics of racial accusation came full circle once again.
Stacey Dash, who also has Mexican heritage, is best known for the 1995 film "Clueless" and the recent cable-TV drama "Single Ladies." On Twitter, she was called "jigaboo," "traitor," "house n----r" and worse after posting, "Vote for Romney. The only choice for your future."

That's right, rsweets. Most black folk aren't stupid and they know what party harbors the racist GOPteaparty types. And I'm guessing they like to be able to look in the mirror in the morning and know they aren't aligning themselves with people who have time and again shown disdain and hatred for blacks. And another MINOR DETAIL regarding the post, black folks have supported other presidential candidates until now, all of them white by the way. And many of those candidates have gotten a very high percentage of the black vote. Were blacks racists then for supporting all white candidates? A ridiculous question, right? But I say no more ridiculous than the question posed by the original post.

(14,040 posts)but I will say this... it could be because people of color don't feel as though a white person "gets" them, therefore, voting for a white candidate is voting against their own best interests. For me, the immediate comparison is the Log Cabin Republicans. As a lesbian, I could never vote Republican (and often have a hard time voting for Democrats) because it's voting against my own best interests. As a woman, I could never see myself voting Republican because of the way they see and legislate for (against) women.
I supported Hillary over Barack because she was a woman and I felt she had more political experience than President Obama and would understand and support the best interests of women. Does that make me sexist? Maybe but I don't think so, it makes me human.

(11,464 posts)as said above, this thread title should be
republicantealibertarianparty offers all Minorities, Women, Gays and Jews NOTHING
and a vote not for the democrats or in rare cases where people are running (Like Angus King or Charlie Crist in 2010)who is independent)who will caucus with the democrats is 100% a vote for the republicans.(which is how Rubio in Florida was elected.)

(8,964 posts)Black voters there overwhelmingly voted for his white male Democratic opponent in that race, who won largely on the basis of that support. Republicans figured Steele would have been a shoo-in with overwhelming black support. They were wrong, since most voters will ultimately support a candidate who reflects their values and best interests, regardless of what their ethnicity or racial demographic might happen to be.

(9,644 posts)and personally I think that is fine. It is a factor in my support for the president.
But I have yet to see a "Put the black back in the whitehouse" t-shirt, or any other racist declarations/dog whistles/code euphemisms at one of his campaign events.
Just a few links to posts or articles about racist events and/or statements from republican campaigns and convention. They occur with regularity.

white folks vote for the white candidate:, it's because of the issues; when Black folks vote for the Black candidate, it's because of tribalism? In order to begin to believe that one would have to:
1. Ignore nearly 50 years of voting history, i.e., The African-American electorate has supported the Democratic candidate, without regarding for the race of that candidate;
2. Ignore more recent election recents ... the African-American electorate did not largely support the presidential runs of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton or Herman Cain;
3. Completely ignore the gop platform.
I added a fourth point in my post in the Daily Star comment section ...

What an embarrassing article.

(8,964 posts)During this timeframe, in every presidential election prior to 2008, black citizens voted for a white male candidate at the top of the ticket by margins of 9-1 or better. If Hillary had been the nominee they almost certainly would have provided her with the same lopsided margin that Obama received. Is AP suggesting that they should have bucked a historical trend and backed McCain-Palin simply to prove they weren't "prejudiced" against white people? Most citizens vote for the party and/or candidate that reflects their values and best interests. As a case in point, Michael Steele lost a Senate race in Maryland some years ago largely because a large majority of blacks voted for a white male candidate on the Democratic ticket, and NOT for a candidate on the basis of race. There is absolutely nothing to suggest that things have changed in recent years with black voters, given the most recent Democratic presidential nominee, who coincidentally is of mixed black-white heritage.

(11,330 posts)clearly that blacks are not as racists as the whites who are trying to find any excuse (he's not American, he was born in Kenya, he's a muslim) to vote against Obama.
Iris
(15,657 posts)there have probably been many, many elections across the country where a black person was running and white folks voted against them because of their race.

(320 posts)And not the racist white party, who counts a number of "slavery was good" politicians, who's at fault?
Just like when all the white people complain about why all those Blacks/Latinos/Asians self-segregate, when they should really look at themselves and ask why all of the people in their own social circle are white.
