I've been buying aftermarket parts for my Toyota Prius. My first foray was extremely unsatisfactory and my dissatisfaction with the company I brought from is limitless. With a little googling I was able to pick up parts without buying from those assholes in Redwood City, CA.
One day before my contract ended on 10/5/2012 I ordered a fog light kit from K2motor. The delivered cost was supposed to be around $110.
Last Friday I went back (to where I usta work) for a going away party for a friend. While I was there I checked my company email and found this gem in my inbox:

Dear Customer,
Thank you for your order, unfortunately there is a hold on your order as of right now.
We request that you see the attached verification form and return it completed to us in order to process your order.
Once we receive this we will be able to give this to our accounting department so we can clear the hold and ship your item.
Please complete the attached form and fax to (909)839-2522 or scan the form and send by e-mail.
The attached form will need the following:
-Both sides of your credit card that was used to place the order
-Front side of a government issued ID (e.g. driver license, identification card)
Once we receive the form we will be able to ship your item. Your signature is needed as well so we have permission to charge your card and ship your order.
The other option would be for us to just go ahead and cancel the order since we are not able to process it without the verification form. If you have any questions you may contact us at (800)959-3915.
Thank you again and we hope to hear from you soon. Have a great day!
Best Regards,
Daniel

(58,662 posts)If you do anything, forward the email to your credit card company fraud division.
DO NOT send any of that personal information anywhere beyond very reputable firms and government offices.
Asking for copies of both sides of your card is a dead giveaway.
