Lincoln (NE) Star-Journal, endored John McCain in 2008:
Months before the presidential election in 2008, the worlds financial system ground to a standstill thanks to a system so devoid of regulations and enforcement that banks and financiers no longer trusted each other.
Thats the mess Barack Obama stepped into when he took office in 2008. Obama engineered a turnaround. In the hands of a president less pragmatic, less cool under pressure, it might not have happened.
After his first four years, Obama is a proven leader. He wins the Journal Stars endorsement for president.

Winston-Salem (NC) Journal (last endorsed a dem for president in 1964--LBJ):
Americans have a clear choice between two presidential candidates with starkly different ideas for spurring the economy, providing for the health of our people, defending our interests abroad, educating our children and protecting our environment. We believe that President Barack Obamas progress on these issues merits him a second term in the White House.
Four years ago on this page, we endorsed Republican U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona over Obama. We wrote that we were impressed with Obama, but McCain would bring the Iraq war to a successful conclusion, work to end American dependence on foreign oil, reduce America's output of climate-changing gases and begin the rebuilding of our economy.
The Democratic president has done all those things and more. He is calm under pressure and courageous in standing up for the rights of all Americans, including the poor, veterans, the elderly, women, gays and immigrants. In contrast, weve sometimes found it hard in the last few weeks to tell just what Obamas challenger, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, really stands for.

Everett (WA) Herald (Didn't endorse any candidate in 2008):
The Republican nominee, former Gov. Mitt Romney, is enjoying a bump in the polls after an impressive debate performance earlier this month. Romney's political vision, including preserving the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy, rolling back Obamacare, advocating a troubling redo of Medicare, and opening up the West to more resource exploitation, is not consonant with what America needs in 2012. His shape-shifting style -- Romney didn't always disparage global warming and national healthcare -- also makes him a risky, uncertain bet.
In 2012, The Herald Editorial Board recommends that voters re-elect President Barack Obama.

Sacramento Bee (Sacramento, CA):
Voters often say they want their elected leaders to keep their promises and, at crucial moments, show real political backbone. President Barack Obama deserves a second term largely because he has delivered on both of these fronts.

Boulder (CO) Daily Camera:
Barack Obama has shown cautious, yet steady leadership during the slow emergence from an extraordinary recession. He did so despite the most divisive, obstructionist opposition in memory. We support President Obama for a second term.

Philadelphia (PA) Inquirer:
America doesn't need an Etch A Sketch president whose positions change with the type of audience he's speaking to. It also doesn't need a president who makes foreign-policy speeches suggesting the nation needs to become entangled in even more foreign disputes. Families are tired of seeing their sons and daughters in the armed forces venture into harm's way for causes that no longer seem as important, especially with the nation continuing to struggle to end an economic crisis. If anything, polls show, most Americans think the troops in Afghanistan and elsewhere can't come home soon enough.
BARACK OBAMA is the better candidate in the presidential race. A vote for him is an investment in a strong future, which is why The Inquirer endorses his reelection.

Las Cruces (NM) Sun-Times:
We believe the country has turned the corner and is heading in the right direction under Obama. Given the intentional vagueness of his proposals and his many reversals on core positions, we're not sure which direction Romney would lead us.

(58,662 posts)In 2008, Barack Obama was The Seattle Times choice for president. Four years later, we endorse him again, with less enthusiasm. But he is a better choice than Mitt Romney, and could still go down in history as a good president.
It's lukewarm, but it's there.

Four years ago, in endorsing Democrat Barack Obama for president, we noted his intellect, his temperament and equanimity under pressure. He was unproven, but we found him to be presidential, in all that that word implies.
In that, we have not been disappointed. This is a serious man. And now he is a proven leader. He has earned a second term.
Mr. Obama sees an America where the common good is as important as the individual good. That is the vision on which the nation was founded. It is the vision that has seen America through its darkest days and illuminated its best days. It is the vision that underlies the president's greatest achievement, the Affordable Care Act. Twenty years from now, it will be hard to find anyone who remembers being opposed to Obamacare.
He continues to steer the nation through the most perilous economic challenges since the Great Depression. Those who complain that unemployment remains high, or that economic growth is too slow, either do not understand the scope of the catastrophe imposed upon the nation by Wall Street and its enablers, or they are lying about it.

(33,497 posts)We at the NNPA look forward to working with the presidents administration in the formulation of strategies for the next four years. It is our hope that those plans include more opportunities for Blacks to procure business with the federal government, greater employment opportunities for Blacks in America and enhanced opportunities for all students seeking higher education. We encourage our readers to register to go out and vote, and be sure to take the proper identification with them to the polls on Election Day. Vote to re-elect President Barack Obama on Nov. 6.

(33,497 posts)Four years ago, under a different owner, The San Francisco Examiner endorsed John McCain and Sarah Palin for president. Happily, the nations voters had a better idea.
Today, as a different paper under new ownership, we wholeheartedly endorse Barack Obama and Joe Biden for a second term so that they can move forward with reforms this country needs.
A presidents second term is an opportunity to implement his legacy agenda. Nothing we have seen suggests that Barack Obama will be content to rest on his laurels in the next four years.
