Some guy is jumping out of a balloon from 120,000 ft. Shit this is awesome. The live coverage is here:
http://www.redbullstratos.com/live/
You're either going to see him die a miserable death, or go supersonic without an airplane around him.

(24,382 posts)It's like a sub-orbital flight, but without the rocket to blow you up.
How much would you pay to go to that altitude?
It would be fascinating!

(24,382 posts)probably so we won't see him twist apart like a chicken in a fan.
If reason forbid, there should be an accident.

(12,409 posts)I snooped around the web site....apparently Baumgartner has jumped before...say 98,000 ft. back in June. And...amazingly, the Ret. Col. Joe Kittinger did this in 1960! Oh........My..........God! He is on the Red Bull Team.
I had no idea!
snip>
On August 16, 1960 Joe Kittinger became a real-life superhero.
It was the "highest step in the world". Joe Kittinger made history as he ascended to 102,800 feet in a high-altitude balloon and jumped to Earth, setting four world records. During a distinguished USAF career, Joe served as a test pilot, Squadron Commander, and Vice Wing Commander, and he spent 11 months as a POW in Vietnam. He retired as a Colonel and subsequently set two world ballooning records and won numerous ballooning competitions.

(62,325 posts)Just wait 10 seconds for the ad to finish and it goes right to live coverage.
He's at over 114, 000 feet right now.
From the Utube description of what he is doing:
A LIVE webcast of the Red Bull Stratos will be live streamed at http://www.youtube.com/redbull and http://www.redbullstratos.com
Red Bull Stratos is a mission to the edge of space that will try to surpass human limits that have existed for more than 50 years. Supported by a team of experts, Felix Baumgartner will undertake a stratospheric balloon flight to more than 120,000 feet / 36,576 meters and make a record-breaking freefall jump in the attempt to become the first man to break the speed of sound in freefall (an estimated 690 miles / 1,110 kilometers per hour), while delivering valuable data for medical and scientific advancement.
