He was after all the inventor and creator of the single bullet theory you know.

Rest in peace Arlen.

He was rewarded with a political career for a near-lifetime.

He spoke at a funeral for a friend of mine nearly a couple of years ago...he'd become a shell after his loss.

and is now the last one who was left

The only thing probably not true is, Arlen probably is not in heaven that the Kennedy's are.

As they say on the price is right..."Come on Down, Arlen"

besides, what else did Arlen ever do? There is nothing else he was known for.

Wonder if like at the Ford Funeral, Bush41 will speak.

Former Senator Arlen Specter (R/D - PA) has died

given that he switched parties in 2009.

otoh - I have no respect for him given that he openly called Anita Hill a liar. Fuck him.

Also interesting - he is from the same little town as Senator Bob Dole. Russell, Kansas population under 5,000.

He switched because he knew he could not win the ReTHUG primary with the teabaggers.

Liberals are suppose to represent the humane side of American political ideology.

Arlen Specter didn't fucking murder anyone. He was imperfect. He also voted for some very good things. And he was a human being like the rest of us. You act like he was fucking Hitler or something and it just makes the rest of us look bad. You must be a bitter, sad little creature to think its ok to indulge in such bullshit.

I look at Mr Specter and think about my own father who suffered a painful death from cancer. I think of the pain it brought on my family. I think about the fact that some of the last things he did as a public servant was vote to end pre-existing condition discrimination from insurance companies.

All you see is Clarence Thomas and magic bullet theories.

I think its a clear illustration of the difference between someone like me and someone like you. I'm willing to consider the weight of a man as a whole, while you want to jump straight in and condemn for their imperfect moments as if their entire life is defined by only that. Its disgusting and shameful.

You are missing the point. Nothing Specter did justifies a vitriolic reaction to his death. NOTHING. I don't need to agree with someone's politics to respect them as a human being. I don't treat my ideology with such religious fervor. Thats simply not healthy.

For that, may he rest in peace.

I know the more bloodthirsty, pseudo-liberal types will be out in full force, showing the world that we have people on our side just as nasty as the nastiest Republicans, but I hope most of us can stay classy.

... including such things as his migration between the parties & his infamous Magic Bullet theory.

Still at the end he made a deal with the Democrats and kept his part of the deal. Under normal circumstances I'd have summarily dismissed him, but he earned a modicum of respect from me in the end for keeping his word.

RIP.
