I was a little worried when he was spinning crazily early on, but he straightened it out and came through beautifully.

Above a certain altitude there isn't enough air resistance to let you orient yourself.
Kittinger said that was the thing that freaked him out when he jumped in 1960 - he didn't actually feel like he was falling at first because there was nothing to buffet the suit, so it felt like he was stationary and the balloon was rocketing upwards.
