What amazes me is a lot of the poor, especially in the south are doing their best to support wall

Street, hedge funds, and those institutions who have done their best to keep the poor poor, and eliminate the middle class

Why do some people vote against their own interest?

That's basically the long and short of it. Too many people still fighting the Cold War.

5. Who says impoverished people are likely to vote?

Wouldn't statistics support more votes come from 'middle class' people?

And if so, why would middle class people vote against the interests of impoverished people?

14. Agree, impoverished less likely to vote; middle class more likely to be polled;

And the reason why the middle class votes to do things to keep people impoverished is that they are in the middle and have bought the lies that the poor are stealing from them. Not all in the middle class are progressives, Democrats, etc. Many neo-cons, teabaggers and others who are hawkish fall in that demographic. So they are voting to protect themselves, but not looking at the long term.

They realized that they were voting against their own interests, but they honestly believed they would go to hell if they didn't.

Republican mass voting support owes to racism, nothing more and nothing less.

... had an Obama/Biden sign with a red "NO" circle/slash on it (both sides). It looks like it was printed that way, not modified. This place is in serious need of some fixing up and rMoney's bullshit isn't going to do anything to help them. I can understand the two wealthy neighbors with rMoney signs, the right wing jock with his, and the unapologetic bigot across the street with his. Those make sense, but why the ones rMoney would hurt the most? Are they really that fucking stupid?

On Edit: My wife scored a pair of canvas shoes on clearance - 70% off - for $1.79. She just wanted them for garden work (her other low-cost pair from a couple years ago are completely falling apart). We also scored some clear plastic shoe boxes (made in Canada, but at least not China) for $1 each!!! And I still forgot the damn kitchen trash bags.

12. Sir, please tell your wife to go on the web and look for USA made canvas shoes.

They will cost more, but won't fall apart on her. As a matter of fact, they will likely last so long that she will likely take them to the trash so that she can buy another pair. I know from experience, I have taken to donating my american made clothing so that I can justify buying new stuff, the clothing does not wear out.

15. We try to buy USA made stuff whenever possible, but she needed a pair two weeks ago.

She's been using the ones that barely qualify for sandals anymore, but once they hit the discount rack, they're fate is uncertain if they aren't purchased. I WISH our shoes were all made in the USA (and our clothing, and damn near everything else - we can't grow coffee here). At present, she and I both are wearing US-made New Balance running shoes. That's all I'll buy, even though I can't run anymore.

It's amazing how much money you can save by putting something back if you can't find a US-made product. Ironically, the Dollar Tree is one of the best places to look now. It used to be ALL Chinese made stuff, but that's changed with time. I get our Halloween candy there, but only buy the stuff made here (like Tiger pops - I LOVED those as a kid). I used to get the Brach's pick-n-mix sold by the pound from one of the local grocery stores, but they took out the bins a few years back. Too bad. They had the flavored Tootsie Rolls and it was a hell of a lot cheaper to buy them by the pound than in bags.

Alas, I fear for the fate of candy. Even Hershey has moved production to Mexico (but not China). And I don't know if you read it, but they're actively working to eliminate child labor and improve overall conditions with the cocoa suppliers in West Africa. The goal of "by 2020" seems a long way off, but they've got their work cut out for them on that front. I refuse to buy Nestle because of their "nurse maid" program in third-world countries. That boycott is in its 25th year.

From shoes to chocolate in three paragraphs - not bad, eh?

10. The south is dominated by single issue voters.

Southerners vote for the person that say what they like about gays, or guns, or racial minorities, or say they will deny women rights to make their own decisions about their bodies and to be economically self sufficient.

Southerners, per capital are the biggest users of welfare, Medicaid, SS and Medicare. Their economies get supported up by money from blue states.

There is a network in the south that sends massive emails and writes letters to the editors warning those low informed voters that the democrats are going to take their guns and bibles away, that Obama is going to take "in God we trust off our money", that he is muslim and we are going to have sharia law. I get these emails and have tried to track them down. I tracked them back to a Baptist Church in Georgia without an address.
