A set of leaked internal AT&T training documents obtained by TorrentFreak reveal that the Internet provider will start sending out anti-piracy warning notices to its subscribers on November 28.
Customers whose accounts are repeatedly flagged for alleged copyright infringements will have their access to frequently visited websites blocked, until they complete an online copyright course. Its expected that most other participating ISPs will start their versions of the anti-piracy plan on the same date.

(34,845 posts)You can say what you want about blocking access based on 'alleged' copyright infringement -and I download stuff all the time- but the rapid distribution available with the Internet makes existing laws rather blase.

And somehow able to snoop freely without a warrant.
The term "alleged" is because altho the private snoopers can say they tracked your ISP number, there is no proof as to the person who did the actual downloading. Was it me in my den, or one of my 4 kids in their own rooms, or an overnight guest, or.....??
That is why the current plan is to send the account name of an ISP a warning, then another one, till 6 warnings have been ignored.
Meanwhile, the private companies are being rewarded on some level for doing the snooping for the industry.
edited to add: The actua piracy issue is coming from USA....which appears to dictate piracy issue to other countries.
Justice Department Educates Foreign Judges on Piracy Issues
The U.S. Department of Justice is ramping up its battle against online piracy. Yesterday another $2.4 million was dedicated to the ever-increasing threat, and Attorney General Eric Holder seized the opportunity to gloat about some recent anti-piracy successes. Besides claiming the Megaupload takedown as a clear victory, Holder also noted that the DoJ has trained, educated and met with thousands of foreign judges, prosecutors, investigators, and policymakers on piracy issues.
This week the U.S. Department of Justice awarded $2.4 million in grants to continue their ongoing war on piracy.
"As our country continues to recover from once-in-a-generation economic challenges, the need to defend IP rights and to protect Americans from IP theft has never been more urgent, Attorney General Eric Holder said.

Can't bust banks and funds who steal, but sure can be the cop on the beat globally for private companies.
