http://projectvote.org/voter-intimidation.html
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 prohibit persons from intimidating or attempting to intimidate, threaten or coerce another person for the purpose of interfering with their right to vote freely in federal elections. However, the maximum penalty for conviction on a charge of voter intimidation under federal guidelines is a fine and/or no more than one year in prison,

Time. They need to spend time for such a crime. How can this be watered down to such a small blip in politics? It has to be a major crime to coerce or threaten or bribe voters. Voting is the centrepiece of democracy and it is sacred.

(47,675 posts)Now listen to the first three aims of the corporatist movement in Germany, Italy and France during the 1920s. These were developed by the people who went on to become part of the Fascist experience:
(1) shift power directly to economic and social interest groups;
(2) push entrepreneurial initiative in areas normally reserved for public bodies;
(3) obliterate the boundaries between public and private interest -- that is, challenge the idea of the public interest.
This sounds like the official program of most contemporary Western governments.

(11,683 posts)Looking at SCOTUS rulings favoring the corporatist. Look at wealth distribution. Look at the monopolies in food production, media and energy. Look at who pays taxes. Look at banksters walking while a a small time thief sits in prison. We are the frog cooking in boiling water and and have no way to lower the heat the way things are.
One key factor is demonization and diminution of unions, simply people organizing for their own benefit, are at a century low but a figment of legal maneuvering allows corporations to have more power than any one man. I thing the strong front is a big crushing bulldozer.

(111,266 posts)We still have a pretty much secret ballot in this country. It is absolutely essential for the employees of such a company to vote as they please and then lie to the boss about it if necessary.
Some people don't deserve to be told the truth. These bullying corporate bastards are first on the list.

(19,458 posts)You know, if they haven't laid them off THIS term, WHY would they lay them off next one??? Considering consumer spending up, confidence is up, jobs are up, etc. Oh yes.. so that the scumbag assholes like Siegel can build "the biggest house in America," aka the Queen of Verssaille. Frankly, most of their employees probably hate their asses, and will vote for Obama just to spite them.
