prosperous, intelligent and compassionate and they do not want war. After reading the article I felt I had formed the wrong opinion because of their leader. Probably the way we're all going to feel if R&R are elected. Good for you to friend them on FB.

I've met one Iranian and that was in college. He was our RA (resident assistant) and was a super nice guy. I grew up in a fairly small town (18,000 at the time, now it's 32,000) and there were not many minorities there. About 70% were racists (maybe more). I only lived in that town for middle and high school, but it did bother me.

I wish I had written the guys name down to see if I could find him on Facebook or something.

I have thought this, literally for decades. Warpigs fanning the flames of hate. They infest governments worldwide, including our own.


Next time they want to have a war, let them go do the fighting and pay for it out of their own pockets.

If it is not too much to ask, can we reach out to those who would reach out to us? The Big DU could do well sharing wisdoms with new friends like these.

The governments incite people to hate each other. If people hate and are afraid of the people of another country then the haters turn to their government to make them feel strong and powerful. It's really sick.

The flags on the podiums can be so interchangeable. They could just as easily be US ans Iranian flags. Well, except half the US hands would be holding guns.....

During Bush's term, I talked to people from Canada, Japan, France, and the U.K. I kept having to say, "I am so sorry - I swear, I didn't vote for him. I hate him more than you do! Please, don't hate all of the U.S. A lot of us are good."

If Romney weasels his way in, I'll have to say all that again. I don't want that to happen.

I was out of the country traveling. Many Americans I met simply claimed to be Canadean to avoid having to apologize. I felt it was important to acknowledge that I was American, but like you, ChaoticTrilby, I quickly announced I didn't vote for him and let them know we aren't all that crazy.

I'm in Thailand now where the people respect and love our President. I don't want to start apologizing again.

It is how I see it these days, not only Iranians and Israelis but all of our so-called leaders vs. the people themselves. We don't want war, we don't want them to gin up fake reasons for war, what we would really really like is for them to get out of the way and let us reach out to one another in our common humanity.

I only lived in that town for middle and high school, but it did bother me. College was great because I was able to interact with so many different kinds of people.

They were very interested in Obama and the entire election and would IM me anytime they saw me online to chat about it. I guess it was one way to get around the censors. That is also how I ended up seeing photos and videos of their uprising 48 hours before anything was on the US news. It was surreal seeing such big news happing on my Facebook and Twitter feed and seeing nothing in the regular news.

Every day over lunch I watched Donahue. One day they had a bunch of Russians (soviets whatever); I was surprised that all of the suspicious attitudes we had toward them were not accurate.

In the end; they were just like us. They didn't hate us, they didnt hate anyone I suddenly had an interest in going to the Soviet Union as a tourist.

I remember reading in the 'Stars and Stripes' how the 'Pravda' had printed a certain story. It's kind of ironic to me that now we have Fox News; significantly more propaganda than the 'Pravda' could have ever dreamed.

However, social media is the balance. Things don't have to show up on the front page of the newspaper or the evening news. Nobody trusts the news to get it right, they trust their friends who trust their friends. My mother and my nieces and nephews are on Facebook. The word can be gotten out quickly and it has some control over the national dialog.

Waiting for the news to cover a story is like waiting for a package from the pony express (with horses); they don't deliver anymore.

With few exceptions, most wars are the result of the greed and ambition of politicians, who use the bodies of their people to score points against their opponents and call it "patriotism."

Great video, thanks. A good book on Iran - 'Reading Lolita in Tehran' - gives the people's perspective and the harshness of the men in power, or what they're up against.

"The people can always to convinced to support war". So far it seems to be failing in this particular instance. Maybe they haven't yet been taken over by Hate Radio.

Which is another reason this Iran warmongering pisses me off.

As I was rudely informed by one of their college exchange students about 40 years ago. I got the last laugh though when the Iranian student and his room mates were arrested for drug possession a few months later.

get rid of the Leaders....or let them fight each other on Pay-for-TV!
