That is the explanation that I have gotten from my father (who was in the military all of 60+ days), along with others that were in the military (For much longer than my dad).


Reagan started that crap because he thought it looked cool and they have just ass-umed that was what they are all supposed to do.

The President is not supposed to be military. The military is supposed to be under the control of the citizens, not the other way around.
