Harvey Pekar statue unveiled at library

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Five days ago, dignitaries unveiled a statue of Superman, Cleveland's superhero.
On Sunday, Cleveland's anti-hero got a bronze likeness of his own.

A shrugging bronze statue of the late Harvey Pekar was unveiled by his widow, Joyce Brabner, as dozens of friends, acquaintances and fans applauded on the second floor of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Library on Lee Road.

The 2 1/2-foot-tall statue depicts Pekar stepping from the fiberglass replica of a page from one of his graphic novels.

'Pekar stands, elbows in, palms turned up.

"Oy vey! What do you want from my life?" reads a bubble next to Pekar.

I know we have some Harvey Pekar aficionados on the board. I think its great to hear the man given his due. The man clearly loved the library and this is a fitting memorial.
