Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsObama should offer Mitt a $10,000-bet at the debate. (No, seriously.)
When Mitt tries to have it both ways again, running from his hard-right-pandering, here's what Obama should say:
"Let me tell you something: Mitt, that sure sounded like something a moderate, centrist republican would have said.
I know, you are a man of integrity and you would never flip-flop on a political issue. But, you know what? I'll take that risk:
I'll bet you 10,000 bucks, you held a different position before this debate."
Then walk over to his lectern and reach out for a handshake.
1. Describing Mitt Romney as a moderate republican. (Right-wingers distrust him because they know, he's not really one of them.)
2. Sarcasm.
3. The famous 10.000-dollar-gaffe revisited.
4. Calling him a flip-flopper to his face.
5. The bet sets the stage for a post-debate conflict that will happen on TV and the Intertubes and that will revolve around the question whether or not Mitt Romney is a flip-flopper. This way the conversation is again framed as a referendum on Romney.
6. Obama can get away with such a stunt, because there will be one more debate in which he can be serious and presidential again.
7. Biden's not the only one who can land a punch.
And Fox "News"?
How un-presidential to attack your opponents sincerity.
How un-presidential to offer a bet during a debate (which Romney NEVER did).

(12,504 posts)If Romney loses, he gets to show them. Romney of course will be caught in a quandry because if he doesn't take the bet, he is voting against his own ability to win the Presidency.
This wil:
(1) spur voters to vote for Obama so they can see those returns;
(2) After seeing the returns the will be ever so grateful they didn't vote for Romney
(3) Ensure there will be no other Romney run for the Whitehouse.
(4) Set a standard that all other Presidential hopefuls would not dare to hide their tax returns.
