The head of a northeast Ohio charity says that the Romney campaign last week ramrodded their way into the groups Youngstown soup kitchen so that GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan could get his picture taken washing dishes in the dining hall. Brian J. Antal, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society, said that he was not contacted by the Romney campaign ahead of the Saturday morning visit by Ryan, who stopped by the soup kitchen after a town hall at Youngstown State University.
Were a faith-based organization; we are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations, Antal said in a phone interview Monday afternoon. Its strictly in our bylaws not to do it. They showed up there, and they did not have permission. They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors. He added: The photo-op they did wasnt even accurate. He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall.

I cant afford to lose funding from these private individuals, he said. If this was the Democrats, Id have the same exact problem. He added that the incident had caused him all kinds of grief and that regardless of whether Ryan had intended to serve food to patrons or wash dishes, he would not have allowed the visit to take place. Had they asked for permission, it wouldnt have been granted. But I certainly wouldnt have let him wash clean pans, and then take a picture, Antal said.

(1,979 posts)And it just makes me shake my head that they actually think that doing something so friggin dishonest wouldn't get caught, since they keep getting "fact checked" due to their constant dishonesty.
HOW HOW HOW can anyone actually stand behind this circus act? It simply amazes me.

(5,198 posts)for a photo op, interesting turn of a phrase. These guys want to force their way into government also, no compromise, no respect and no social skills whatsoever.

(2,627 posts)terrible parents. They 'used' their children in this photo op - they are teaching their children to be fakers. They should be ashamed - there aren't enough Hail Marys to forgive this phony act of charity.

The head of a charity in northeastern Ohio where Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan and his family were photographed cleaning dishes over the weekend said Monday that Ryan was not authorized to be on the premises and "did nothing" while there.
Brian J. Antag, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society in Youngstown, told the Washington Post that the Romney campaign had not asked to make the Saturday visit to the soup kitchen. He said that he runs an apolitical faith-based organization which has bylaws barring it from hosting political candidates, and that the visit jeopardized donations from private individuals.
"They showed up there and they did not have permission," he said. "They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors." Antag added that Ryan and his family "did nothing" while on the premises ...
