I am sick and tired of people talking about voting for Romney, knowing he wants to start multiple wars, but then are not willing to make a sacrifice to support those wars. They won't volunteer, their children certainly won't go. They expect everyone else to go in their place and to clean up what they started.
Why is it "socialism" when we ask for the rich to pay their fair share to help those who might be in need, or for the greater good of society as a whole but when someone sacrifices their life for the benefits and freedoms (and corporate profits) of someone else, that isn't "socialism"? I am tired of the people who think that they are supporting the troops by slapping a yellow ribbon on the back of their car. That isn't supporting the troops, that is supporting cheap, Chinese made goods. Liking or sharing a photo on Facebook doesn't make the mission of a soldier more just or noble, it makes you part of a crowd of cowards who are unwilling to do what is right by those troops.
If people want to vote for war, let them vote for war, but they need to quit looking to everyone else to make the sacrifice and clean up the mess they make. They need to be held accountable, whether it is by their own service or that of their children. I bet they change their minds really quick at that point.

(1,446 posts)I get tired of hearing how he has no problem taking us to war while he has never cared to make the sacrifice himself and certainly didn't care about sending others in his place.

We make a big mistake when we misunderstand what Romney is all about. He is no patriot. Never has been, and never will be.

(19,877 posts)offshoot the costs of war? What bizarro-land does the GOP live in thinking it would be a good idea to lower the amount of money coming in to the Fed Gov at the time when you will be spending it the most? Besides, the rich have more to lose, they should pay more for wars. A LOT More.

Socialism = Communism
Communism = Evil
Therefore, socialism is evil. :sigh:

The wife's dad cussed out every recruiter who called.

(1,446 posts)I don't begrudge anyone for deciding not to serve and I wouldn't push my children toward that life at all these days. I do get tired of these assholes trying to tell me what constitutes respect toward, or support of, the troops when not a damn one of them would make a sacrifice for that in which they believe.

(20,579 posts)Your compaison of sacrifice in the service of war is not considered socialism.
I agree that those who bang the drums for war should be the first to send themselves and their children. Now - they depend upon the fact that there are so many without options for the future they can count on recruits. They have even learned to accept people who are not citizens of this country but hate them for their nationalities and religions anyway.
I wish there was a way to hold people accountable for their votes. Some voters get a thrill out of saber rattling and war talk and think that makes them more American. They need to be helddirectly responsible for the carnage their candidate wreaks upon the world.
I love your post.
