(57,073 posts)I'd like to get a 3rd Pfizer with delta ramping up in the south.
GPV
(72,386 posts)needing to boost mRNA yet, though. My family has had all 3 shots here. Im the only one w J&J.
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)I'd be trying to pursue it, too, if I'd gotten the 1-shot vax.
Maybe there is a trial for this you could sign up for?
Pls keep us posted!

(57,073 posts)I really would like a 3rd Pfizer tbh.
I know nobody is talking about this, but why is it not being considdred for those over 65?
Perhaps (just a guess) because one anti-vaxer talking point is that booster shots will be needed.

(14,628 posts)Both said I cannot get the Pfizer or Moderna shot until the CDC changes its guidance. See Post #30.
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)Hopefully soon!
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)But my thinking is that for those over 65, perhaps a 3rd mRNA might be a good idea for authorities to consider suggesting. Most of the reported breakthroughs resulting in hospitalization or death are in the over 65 group.
But not all.
OhioChick's son is ER dr & he had 8 otherwise healthy, fully vaccinated people in 20s to 30s die in one week in ICU with delta.
Scary stuff, esp since CDC decided to stop reporting breakthrough cases & only report hospitalizations & deaths.
While breakthroughs are usually asymptomatic or mild cases, the disease is still reported to be transmitted & long-haul can & does occur with those.
Have you seen Harvard epudemiologist Dr. Dingel's tweets?

(57,073 posts)I know it is important to get everyone vaxed, but the safety of the individual is important to each of us, while authorities' goal is to frame the behavior of the masses.

(17,025 posts)I heard Fauci address this recently and he said doctors are doing this but theres no evidence yet that it is necessary. Im in the if it wont hurt anything camp go for it.

(2,029 posts)I got Moderna, but he got J&J because it was faster early on when shots were scarce. Now were going to arrange another round for him. Neither of us were happy that he got J&J, but it was at least partial protection ASAP.
LizBeth
(9,953 posts)texting suggesting getting one more of either the other two, I had not even considered but cause he was in 20's and down on the list, he waited for everyone else. I was happy he got it now I want him to get one more.

(12,692 posts)Rumors have it that using a first Pfiser or Moderna shot will act as a booster, but he had a bad reaction to the J&J in mid-April when he got his vaccine. His meds affect his immune system.
I'm not sure but it might be just a bit too early for him to get a booster. So he needs to talk to his doctor. We're just really worried about the grandkids we are raising; they're under 12 and can't get the vaccine yet.

(59 posts)And I keep hearing Bill Gates crying about having to pay all that alimony every time I turn my head whilst howling at the moon at midnight and keep having visions of Amazon going down in flames over the Pacific ocean with Bezos waving byebye.
Maybe it's vaccine induced dreaming! See? Those secret side effects!

(7,413 posts)I feel like its never going to end regardless and there will always be a new variant, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, etc, etc. Zero people at work wear masks, was in Lowes and Publix yesterday, about 10% of people were wearing masks. I think most are just over it and feel like its here to stay so they are moving on and just whatever happens, happens.
zuul
(14,628 posts)Both said "current US regulations do not allow people who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to get either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine."
Good luck trying to find any data on how effective the J&J vaccine is against the Delta variant.
It's like the 12 million of us who got J&J don't exist.
LisaL
(44,982 posts)Where there is a will, there is a way. My guess if you got a prescription from your doctor you could get a booster.
"Some experts who got Johnson & Johnson's one-dose vaccine are trying an extra shot of Moderna's or Pfizer's vaccine to try to protect against the fast-spreading Delta coronavirus variant."

(25,927 posts)efficacy of the vaccines is even bothering with looking at those who got the J&J.
That's the one I got, and I feel perfectly safe. Plus, given that they are now saying even the fully vaccinated should resume full time mask wearing, I'm almost wondering why any of us bothered to get the shots. Okay, I realize they are a very good idea and are doing a lot of good, but still.
And it does seem as though those who have gotten "break-through" infections, been hospitalized, and died, all had "underlying conditions." There needs to be a way to tell us what those conditions were without violating patient privacy.

(5,943 posts)I know someone who recently got the Pfizer after having the Moderna. I thought it was crazy, but he managed to get it.
mwooldri
(10,303 posts)Though it was either one shot of Astra Zeneca and one shot of Pfizer, or one of Pfizer and one of Moderna.
If boosters become necessary I would suspect that people who had the AZ or JnJ jabs will want to have a mRNA based booster. Just my hunch, I'm a delivery boy not a brain engineer...
