assault weapons ban in Mass? I'm curious how many knew that before it was brought out in the open in debate by Candy Crowley.

(2,436 posts)I'm sure it was no surprise to them.
The real question is, do they view Romney as someone more desirable regarding the policy than Barack Obama.
If they do, then ban them all.

(291 posts)Hes a piece of filth who will change his position on anything just to get elected.
He signed tons of anti-2A legislation in Massachusetts. Its sad that the NRA would actually support him.

(23,973 posts)They are nothing but a lobbying arm of the firearms industry, and use fear to get their members to buy even more guns.
Their 'support' of the 2nd is only tangential to that goal.
Obama as president has had a far better record on the 2nd than Romney as governor, yet the NRA is ignoring that fact.
The argument used here by their supporters that "The NRA supports Democrats, too!" is no longer operative, for if that was true, they would have supported Obama over Romney, just based on the record of each.

(659 posts)Im not a gun fanatic but don't have a care one way or other. I just didn't know how close gun enthusiasts follow the voting records closely. That brings up my second question. Why are there so many gun enthusiasts so frantic about what Obama has done about gun rights when he hasn't done a thing about it?

(12,008 posts)With people who freak out about "he's going to take way our gunzes!!" don't really think he will (well, most of them don't), but they know that it's not polite to be racist, especially in the media, so they need a proxy argument. What proxy argument? Whatever. Just pick one. "It's guns today? Ok, whatever. Umm... Obama wants to take away our (this "our", by the way, is basically a code-word for "whites" guns. He must be stopped. Elevensies."

(881 posts)He has a long history of supporting gun control legislation up to and including him calling for a new "assault weapons" ban tonight. The expansion of carry rights that everyone brings up was attached as a rider to an unrelated bill by a republican that the president didn't want, but also didn't want to kill the entire bill. Not that Romney has a better track record. On gun rights, they both suck.
