Oh No, this is Just Terrible News (Bloomberg)...

...For ROMNEY!

Home Starts Jump to Four-Year U.S. High as Demand Firms: Economy

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-10-17/housing-starts-in-u-s-surged-in-september-to-four-year-high.html

Housing starts in the U.S. surged 15 percent in September to the highest level in four years, adding to signs of a revival in the industry at the heart of the financial crisis.

Beginning home construction jumped last month to an 872,000 annual rate, the fastest since July 2008 and exceeding all forecasts in a Bloomberg survey of economists, Commerce Department figures showed today in Washington. An increase in building permits may mean the gains will be sustained.

“It’s no longer a question of whether the industry is rebounding,” Larry Sorsby, chief financial officer of Red Bank, New Jersey-based Hovnanian Enterprises Inc. (HOV), the best-performing homebuilding stock this year, said in a telephone interview today. “There is clear evidence that we have bounced off the bottom and are in the midst of a recovery.”

LOL, that's the third time this week. I need more sleep I think.

Not even Spiderman could spin this into something bad. It's time to start calling on repugs to pull their collective heads outta the sand, or other appropriate hole.

Our real estate broker called last night to postpone the closing on our house. Seems there has been a surge on the sale of existing homes here in Indianapolis the last couple weeks causing a bit of a backlog.

People are getting into bidding wars again. I have friends who have not been able to find a home because they lose out in the bidding wars. My daughter is looking for a house in Oregon, and every single house we saw was "PENDING" and now there is just not much left to buy. It's crazy here in the PNW, houses are selling in a matter of days. Many first time buyers! And people who had lost their homes in 2008 who can qualify again for a mortgage.

The President is manipulating these numbers just like he did the jobs numbers, the improved consumer confidence measurement, increased manufacturing and the weather.

He should be ashamed of himself for manipulating all these things just for political gain. Shame on him. Shame! Shame! Shame!

Just being sarcastic of course.

for an appointment. This is the route I've taken for years. I was amazed at the construction activity going on. Also I've talked to small business people, they feel the change. Things are looking up and the Republican Undertaker can;t spin it anymore.

and that alone is bringing in buyers of homes. Note that 2/3 of your monthly
payments go on average for interest over life of a 25-30 year loan. So, the lower
mortgage rates are making homes more affordable.

Here in NW USA homes did not decline in value like the national average,
and prices are now actually in an uptrend in metropolitan areas of NW.

100 new building permits in September.. never before.

In fact, there is a development here that was started around 2007/2008. They built SIX homes, then simply stopped. The people who bought lived by themselves i this huge empty development. Earlier this year the building started again, and they're being sold quickly.

Also in Oxnard, Calif. there was a huge commercial/retail development that was stopped around 2008 as well because of the Recession. They just completed most of it, including a Whole Foods and many other retailers, after stating in the news that the economy had improved and it was a great time to build again.

My house is still worth less than a third of what it was worth in 2006. While I'm the worst hit amongst the people I personally know well enough to ask, all of my family and close friends, all spread in 10 states of the Eastern US are down at least 30%. For some it won't matter because they'll be fine when they are ready to sell. A couple have moved and decided to rent. One cousin decided to short sell. For me, I'm stuck in a house I needed to get out of in 2008 due to a variety of issues, fortunately none were financial.

We still have a lot of Americans feeling stuck in a house they cannot sell and as long as we do, there will be somewhat of a cloud.

At Thu Oct 18, 2012, 10:57 AM an alert was sent on the following post:

Commerce department? Should be commie department!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=1573355

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See <a href="http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=aboutus#communitystandards" target="_blank">Community Standards</a>.)

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

WTF... did someone hack this person's account or are they really missing a sarcasm tag?

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Oct 18, 2012, 11:13 AM, and the Jury voted 2-4 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: obvious sarcasm
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: Maybe this person was being sarcastic who knows but without proper indication, this is very offensive.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: Right-wing stupidity has lowered the bar so much, it's hard for sarcasm to sneak under.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Alerter, you should have some kind of informed opinion before you bring these cases before the jury. The exclamation points should be just a little bit of a tip off for you when you are wondering if a post is sarcasm or not. If the poster has over 24K posts and says something that "extreme" and you think it MIGHT be sarcasm, it probably is. The biggest problem with alerts like this are that you might catch a jury full of folks that aren't the brightest bulbs on the xmas tree. Let's see if the results show 1 or 2 of those folks
.
now I leave you with the greatness that is t.A.T.u

[dunno what happened to juror #4's link. - jabotb]

Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: My guess? Missing an obvious sarcasm tag. Just a joke, not worth hiding.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: It's sarcasm

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.
