The Right-Wing Lie: Tripoli is Benghazi and Benghazi is Tripoli

Last edited Thu Oct 18, 2012, 03:11 AM - Edit history (1)

"A lie can travel halfway round the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." -- Attributed to Mark Twain.

They are lying and distorting the tragic events in Benghazi for cheap political gain and they are getting away with it. Seriously getting away with it.

What am I talking about?

1.) The murderous attack took place at the "consulate" in Benghazi, not at the embassy in Tripoli.

2.) The requests for additional security were for the "embassy" in "Tripoli" not for the consulate in Benghazi.

Why is this important?

Because GOP House Committee Chairman Darrell Issa in his staged and rush-to-judgement "hearings" immediately methodically cut off any attempt by U.S. State Department employees to clarify this distinction. Issa's sick goal was to muddy the public understanding of the tragedy and to make it look like the "requests" for additional security had been for Benghazi. And that is not the case.

Stay with me because this is important:

Last night in the Presidential Debate, a man in the audience read his prepared question out loud on national television to over 50 million Americans with the Big Lie neatly included:

"We were sitting around, talking about Libya, and we were reading and became aware of reports that the State Department refused extra security for our embassy in Benghazi, Libya, prior to the attacks that killed four Americans.

Who was it that denied enhanced security and why?"

'REPORTS THAT THE STATE DEPARTMENT REFUSED EXTRA SECURITY FOR OUR EMBASSY IN BENGHAZI, LIBYA"

WTF?

Folks, the embassy is in Tripoli! Not Benghazi.

The request for additional security was for the embassy in Tripoli, not a consulate in Benghazi.

And that is not a minor distinction. It is part of the big lie.

Where is the lie? Where is the attempt to muddy that up?

On Fox News and its many affiliates, newspapers, magazines and television programs.

On right-wing radio around the clock this lie is being spread.

And even to where that false narrative got exposure to over 50 million Americans last night.

The intention? To play crass politics with a tragedy in a very sinister and sick way. To make a horrific and heart-breaking situation into a Mitt Romney campaign toy. And of course, to discredit the President, Vice-President, the Secretary of State all so Mitt Romney can get elected.

This is how Osama bin Laden was morphed (presto) into Saddam Hussein so the Bush Cabal could make war in Iraq and let bin Laden slip away. And Americans bought it. Hook line

There is no American embassy in Benghazi and the those "discovered" requests for additional security referred to the embassy in Tripoli, not a consulate in Benghazi.

Now, tell a friend and spread the word before the lie gets all the way around the world on this one.

Stop the lie.

My message wasn't to "inform" DU'ers. It was to lay out information like the "question"'asked last night. Have you seen anyone yet call out that misrepresentation of what took place in Benghazi loaded into that "question"? If so, please show me. I'm on your side. This lie has legs already.

Two of my RW Fox toting twerp buddies were going after this at lunch time today. They were saying something about the fact that Robme was right on calling Obama and Obama is a liar on the Act of Terrorism (which I now know is incorrectly quoting O). They warned me, watch out next debate. Obama won't have the help of the moderator to confirm his lies next time. I just told them, that I'll take it under advisement, given the fact that they're wetting their beds at night in fear and have always been on the wrong side of the facts, while I was rolling my eyes.

"You'll see. Obama's going to get checked, next time."

And this gives me even more ammunition. Awesome & thanks.

I have that channel blocked, but MSNBC was on commercial break.

That white bearded guy was on her show, sounding all undecided and how the pres dodged his question. How impartial is this guy? At the end of the interview, he asks to throw in a plug for his company and thanks his boss for letting him take time off work from XYZ company. I thought, holy shite! This guys not undecided. He's a notoriety whore playing both sides to garner whatever attention he can and to make his questions the questions of the "undecided."

Sorry pal, not falling for your schtick! You're an RR supporter and probably a lifelong registered Rethug.

I like how he said he was part of "a brain trust" before he asked his question preloaded with the lie inside it and his faux outrage. No wonder Fox put him on. Maybe I can yahoo it and find it. Thanks.

This is all a pathetic attempt to take away the luster of the fact that President Obama needed one Republican war, is ending another Republican war, killed Osama bin Laden, decimated Al-Qaida, killed Ghadaffi and helped free Libya. All in less than 3 years. Go Obama!

just in case a heavily armed mob of protestors or gangsters or the former dictator's loyalists or terrorists should get together one night and decide to take it down.

Stop the ignorance and cynical political manipulation.
