Romney's "bosses" gaffe is going mainstream -- it's the new 47

New York Magazine is reporting the story now that the source of these stories of bosses implying lay-offs if Romney loses is, in fact, Romney himself.
http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/10/romney-bosses-should-tell-employees-how-to-vote.html

Romney Caught Encouraging Business Owners to Tell Employees How to Vote

Recently several business owners have made headlines by sending out missives suggesting that workers should vote Romney if they're interested in the health of the business (and thus their jobs). Now In These Times reports that in a June conference call with the National Federation of Independent Business, Mitt Romney said that he's totally behind the questionable practice. "I hope you make it very clear to your employees what you believe is in the best interest of your enterprise and therefore their job and their future in the upcoming elections," says Romney. "Nothing illegal about you talking to your employees about what you believe is best for the business, because I think that will figure into their election decision, their voting decision and of course doing that with your family and your kids as well." Sure, there's no law against employers sharing their political opinions, people just tend to find this sort of thing creepy and unethical, particularly when their boss suggests there's a good chance they'll be joining the ranks of the unemployed if they don't vote Romney.

That stuff in bold, folks? That's called a "money-shot."

I absolutely despised George W. Bush while he was in office. BUT I have to give credit where credit is due. He has stayed out of the media, has made very few political comments, and has certainly not wholeheartedly endorsed Romney.

Romney is worse than Bush in that he is a liar through and through AND he is an egotistical bully. While Bush may have similar traits to those, he was not right up front about it. Romney exhibits those traits publicly like he is entitled to be that way and we, the people, have no right to criticize anything he says or does.

If you notice, right wingers don't even talk positively about Romney. They are not voting "for" him. They are voting "against" Obama.

Mitt Romney wants your vote. And if you're a small business owner, he wants your employees' votes as well and insists that there's nothing wrong with giving them a little guidance this election cycle. On June 6, Romney led a conference call with support from the über-conservative National Federation of Independent Business and -- to cut to the chase -- urged the bosses on the call to persuade their employees to vote for him in the upcoming election.

legal harassment in the workplace. Make no mistake, though, this clearly creates a hostile work environment, and, IMO, a blatant example of quid pro quo - "Vote for Romney or you'll lose your job."

The freedom to vote without coercion from one's employer should be protected activity under the public policy doctrine, which protects employees who take time off to vote, perform jury duty, etc.

So why in hell would you vote for Romney?

My grandfather told me years ago why he was a democrat. He was a coal miner and the coal company owner sent out a letter to all the miners that it would be in their best interests to vote republican. He figured if the boss voted republican, then he must be a democrat. Hopefully this modern day actions by employers will create even more democrats!

Bill & Dick were very open about their employees voting for Reagan. They even had flyers up in the offices telling us how to vote. Even though our jobs weren't threatened, you sure as hell didn't walk around talking positively about Carter! And even without overt threats, it was a VERY uncomfortable environment (they also "required" donating to Reagan's campaign). I can't even imagine how the employees at the firms mentioned in this article must feel now; it has to be much worse than what I went through. Another thought - considering the Marriotts are Mormon, can you imagine what the workplace environment there today must be like?

"OOOOOOHHHHH! Dat nasty 'ol Puddy Tat!!!!"

I think this is the thing that sends Mr. Matthews off the motherfuckin' rails this cycle. Chris might be a water carrier a times, but he does NOT like it when people try and circumvent an honest Public Debate. Chris seems to like it when the People make up their OWN damn mind, and doesn't take kindly to people who try and short circuit a process, that, for him at least, is a Moral Imperative of sorts.
He will be in rare form for SURE.

If this is posted on Rachel's blog, expect her to be on a fucking tear by early next week, as well. If she thinks this has legs, she'll likely spend the weekend crossing T's and dotting I's, and it will be ready to go by Monday.

If this is perceived by the General Population the same way it's perceived around here, this is it. This is THE THING that buries that ruthless rat-bastard, and gets the President another term. Welcome to the October Surprise, MotherFucker. (not to mention, there's still The Majority Leader's little tease about the PROOF of R-Money's tax rates.)
