Open Enrollment meeting at work and the use of "Obamacare"

We had our annual meeting with HR Department at work. About 40 of us, HR, representatives from Anthem, Kaizer, and a dental plan.

While discussing the Flexible Benefits plan the HR manager said that our maximum yearly deduction for FB changed from $2500 down to $5000 because the "Affordable Care Act, Obamacare, or whatever it is you want to call it" doesn't want you to take as much off the top of your taxable income.

Of course when the insurance reps explained that preventative care is now copay free they didn't attribute that to "Obamacare".

It left me kinda pissed.

Am I overreacting?

it's the law and in 2014 when the full plan kicks in, people will come to realize just how good it is.

So let them have their sour grapes, it's all they have left. LOL

I just laugh at people who are constantly against things that benefit them.

I believe the Affordable Care Act is something that will evolve into Single Payer Healthcare -- and it will be in response to the nastiness of insurance companies that dig in their heels and try to make AFCA not work as intended.
If I had been you, I would have thrown it right back in their smug faces. All this resistance and surliness is going to backfire on the insurance companies -- just my prediction.

She spends A LOT on her daughter and this is going to hurt her. My niece has seizures and goes in an ambulance to the hospital regularly. That is $100 each time. If she is admitted to the hospital, that's another $500. That's copays. and my sister works for the IRS. Most people it probably won't matter about how much you can put in there. But someone like my sister who hasn't had any help trying to get her daughter on Medicaid has really been struggling. My niece has seizures, and is developmentally disabled. She wears braces on her legs, has had hip surgery and surgery to stretch one of her leg muscles. My sister has copays for all of it. My niece has at least 3 medicines she takes. Not sure what copays are on that.

I think the new law is better than what we had before, I just worry about this provision. My sis and her husband both work for the IRS, but they are struggling with all this medical bill stuff.

We spend ten grand a year on my medical. My husband says I shouldn't put a number on my health, but that's the number and I wonder if it's worth it anymore.... That's a separate topic.

or something and never got one. They don't like to raise a stink. I have told her to go raise a stink. There should be help for them. Their daughter is learning disabled, legally blind, has seizures.... They have been fighting this battle for years. My niece is 7 years old. I have suggested they seek out other parents in similar situations for some advice. I know if that were us my husband would be beating down any door necessary to get that help with the insurance.
