Be careful the next time you put out your cigarette in West Chester. If you don't find an ashtray that butt could cost you 100 bucks.
West Chester Borough Council approved an ordinance on Wednesday night that establishes a $100 minimum fine for "discarding in public places any cigarette butts or other tobacco materials." Basically, if you are caught on city streets or sidewalks tossing a butt on the ground you could be fined.
Its unclear how the measure would be enforced, but that doesnt necessarily matter, according to a report on the West Chester Patch.
"Enforcement really isnt the issue," Council president Holly Brown said when the ordinance was proposed in August. "Its more about the message."

Good. Cigarette butts are the #1 most polluted item in the world. And contrary to popular belief amongst smokers, they are not biodegradable. They can take decades to begin to break down. Sewers frequently clog because of them.

i dated a woman who threw her lit cigarettes out the window. i asked her to stop and put them out in the ashtray and she said "i dont want that stinking thing in my car" i said "your car? you just inhaled 90% of that into your body and you dont want it in your car?" she said "no, i dont"

(60,567 posts)Early 1980s, about the dawn of the Big Hair Metal Band epoch. They wouldn't want to get any of that nasty smoke in their nice clean cars.
That was shortly after the "goose the throttle as you turn off the ignition era" of the late '70s, which was preceded by the "Leave the engine running while you run into Zippy Mart to grab some milk and a pack of smokes" phase.
My late friend Freeway Dave the bodysurfer and his buddies put a sudden end to that one when they drove that white Cadillac with Texas plates into Mission Bay and took the bus home.
Those were good times.
