"His real victory was in provoking Mr Romney to reveal the snappy, irritable side of his character"

I know some DUers view the Telegraph as a RW source, but this analysis is spot on.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/us-election/9615825/US-Election-Mitt-Romney-loses-his-cool-under-fire-Barack-Obama-plays-the-President.html

US Election: Mitt Romney loses his cool under fire; Barack Obama plays the President

.....

Time and again Mr Romney allowed Mr Obama to get under his skin, in what was clearly a deliberate strategy to tackle the man as much as the questions, with direct attacks on his record that were designed to impugn his integrity. The plan worked. "You'll get your chance in a moment. I'm still speaking," snapped Mr Romney when interrupted by Mr Obama. Such peevishness – and there were several incidences - is very dangerous when addressing a sitting president.

This is a 'threshold' issue. If a candidate cannot take a bit of ribbing from an irritating debate opponent, how will he cope in negotiations with Iran's Ayatollahs or even worse, China's zero-sum trade negotiators?

"Have you looked at your pension?", he said, invading the president's personal space, "Have you looked at your pension, Mr President?" he pressed again, voice shrill with indignation.

"I don't look at my pension. It's not as big as yours," flashed back Mr Obama, the smart kid in the playground, raising a ripple of laughter. It was a telling moment. Mitt wanted to 'step outside' while Barack was saying (infuriatingly) 'keep your hair on'. These are the moments – like Mr Romney's bungled confrontation over the Benghazi attacks - that give Mr Obama precious momentum heading into the final showdown on foreign policy in Florida on Monday.

What is it about our electorate that has blinders on?? The man has no core, no integrity or honor. His sons appear to be just like him and his wife is a do nothing for anyone else type of woman. They are a plague as a group and he individually is a loser. I don't care how much money he has....it doesn't make up for the emptiness of who he is and what he represents. How ignorant must one be to miss this?

Sadly I do believe you're right.....and then that tells me these people have no ethical standard, are greedy, manipulative and a horrendous waste of space and oxygen. I think the bible thumpers got it all wrong.....evil does not come from some nebulous place elsewhere....it is born and blossoms in mankind.....as it so evidently does in Romney and the Rethugs.

And thank you for welcoming me. I am very new here although I've read DU for some time but never posted. It's an oasis of thought and I've learned so much.

I so so hope Barack Obama wins.....if not, I do believe this nation and perhaps the globe is going to go up in smoke in more than one way....

the tory's were Crown sympathizers. Many of those same sympathizers were part of the gentry. And as such were also paying huge amounts for via the stamp tax, yet, they still supported the king even though his tax was killing them financially.

there are people who are willful authoritarians, even when those same authorities are screwing them.

change scares them.

10. As wealthy as he is, Romney is still only a 'useful tool' for the Oligarchs.

Romney would have been even worse than a senile Reagan, he would sign into law any piece of paper set in front of him, and been done 'working' every day by 11:35.

Romney gets to be King Mormon Of America, which is what he's been groomed for his entire life, and the Oligarchy gets their puppet.

I wonder if some of Romney's primary opponents (John Huntsman and Rick Perry come to mind) are getting some pleasure out of watching Romney making a fool out of himself on stage.

let's look at what is at play here, for instance, if the tables were reversed with Mitt Romney being the incumbent and Obama the challenger, would we be reading these type of analysis or would we be reading about how Obama should shut his campaign down? What do we think the talk of the day will be? It would have change the trajectory of the race period, instead no one in the media is talking about his gross disrespect toward an incumbent. Not a peep, where the fuck is the outrage?

So fuck all M$M, fuck em

to the (black) President--of course, 9 or so years ago, people weren't even allowed to say anything negative AT ALL about Georgie Bush without a shitstorm of backlash and boycotting. But now we've got a man onstage basically telling the President of the United States to shut up and sit down, and yet Mitten's campaign isn't over. Racism certainly plays a part in this.

12. Mitt Romney's #1 Problem is that he's Mitt Romney. And Mitt Romney is an unlikable asshole.

This problem is best exemplified by Mitt's inability to open his mouth without being a dick.
