I attended an Organizing for America (Obama Grassroots Team) training session here in KC Sunday. We're getting ready for a big Get-Out-The Vote push all the way to Election Day.
One of the items on the agenda was Voter Protection. The Obama campaign has plans to 'prevent or resolve' problems on Election Day. They already have 500+ lawyers signed up to be observers and counsels at the polling places; they hope to have 900+ by Nov 6.
The campaign is ready to address voter suppression issues, such as:
- Voter suppression calls and door hangars,
- voter caging,
- direct threats!!!!, and
- excessive police presence at polling places (to frighten away low-income voters who've learned to fear the police).
Hopefully, Obama campaign workers across the country are giving the same talks and taking the same steps.
If you observe a case of voter suppression, take down:
- The location of the polling place,
- the time of the incident, and
- your contact information.
Contact your Obama campaign leaders. If the incident involves voter intimidation (direct threats), also contact the FBI:

(58,179 posts)They've been kicking vote-suppressing GOP asses in courtrooms all over the country. They're still sweeping up little pieces of the Ohio SecState after he absorbed a series of furious beatings all the way up to the Supreme Court.
