from a RW friend:
"While I don't agree with the security provided to the personal in Libya,I realize that is not the president's fault. He delegates, he doesn't have time to micro manage every detail in the federal government. However, when the call went out begging for help with two way communication for 6 hours, the president did nothing. As you know, only the "commander in chief" can order the military into a foriegn country to provide help of any kind. A super sonic ground level fly over of 10 F-16s, which were available 15 minutes away (from either of the 2 carrier groups we have stationed there), would have scared the living crap out of the theorist and bought time to help those guys. Can you imagine being in that situation for 6 hrs., knowing that you are going to die without help and no one even responds. By the way, there were 3 other attacks on the same day (9/11). So to say that the president didn't know is either bull shit or the worst break down in communication I can imagine ie. the U.S. was being attacked!. Either way it is unconscionable. I am prior service and I know that this is not the way it is designed to work. When we serve we have to trust that the commander in chief will make ever effort to protect us. And when things do go wrong that help will be on its way ASAP. Again, the president did nothing! I trusted him with my vote once- never again.. ---- "

(326 posts)...his statements reek of right-wing memes and anyone who gets their info spoon-fed from Limbaugh & Co. won't listen to reason or evidence anyway.
Right-wingers are genetically unable to accept anything that deviates from their own screwed up world.

(19,877 posts)Yet on 9/11/01 not a single one of them dared to blame Bush...And that didn't happen half-way around the planet, that happened HERE in the USA, and AFTER months of intel briefing. Btw, that's not at all how the Libya timeline went.

(2,774 posts)It just doesn't happen that way. There are very very strict rules in place. Even when personnel are in harms way.
And the whole "I trusted him with my vote once- never again.. ---- " is bullshit. Guaranteed he voted for Bush after 9/11.
And he doesn't think the Republicans that cut the security budget have any blame?

(21,475 posts)We had allies engaged in a fire fight trying to protect the Americans and yes four Americans died but over a hundred were saved because of our Libyan allies....

Romney: It took 5 weeks for your RW friend to call this an act of theory!
A response to that mess is to send him some coffee.

(9,748 posts)o The ambassador was killed at the start of the fight, not after 6 hours.
o Libyan troops joined the ex-Navy SEALS an hour into the fight, not after 6 hours.
o US reinforcements joined the ex-Navy SEALS before they were killed.
o The ex-Navy SEALS were killed as part of a much larger force. They werent overrun by a mob. They were killed as soldiers in a battle.
o If they did not run at the sight of all these forces arrayed against them, what makes him think they would run at the site of jets?
o How would jets even target the right people?
MacArthur tried using Navy/Marine pilots in place of artillery in the Philippines. It was a disaster until they added Marine Corps spotters to the Army ground forces. If they havent trained together, these things are not very simple.
