An Open Letter To Conservative Women Voters

I don’t get it, Conservative Women. I know that you must understand that not every woman is cut out to be a mom, nor does every woman even want to be a mom. And why is it that you are okay with someone limiting your horizons? What you, the Conservative Woman voter, must understand is that you’re tacitly agreeing with their assertion that women are really just much better for society when they stay in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant. It’s not a cliché anymore when your party’s standard-bearer is advocating more marriages as a way to stop gun violence.

You see, women’s rights aren’t just about abortion; they’re about the way in which our society treats you, as women, but more importantly as human beings. Just from a purely apolitical standpoint, are you willing to tell the world that your genitalia is different from a man’s and therefore your input isn’t as welcome? Or that because you have a vagina it makes total sense for you to make more than 20 cents on a dollar less on average than men do? I guess, when it call boils down to its essentials, I have a simple question for you.

Why do you devalue yourself for the sake of men who don’t value you at all?

The point, Conservative Women, is simple. Your party is one that has embraced inequality as a political virtue. An unborn, hours-old zygote has the same rights as you do. That’s devaluing to you. They see no need to tell employers that gender is not a valid reason to discriminate in terms of salary. That’s devaluing to you. They feel that if you are raped, violated in the most disgusting and heinous way anyone can be violated, you should be forced by law to carry your rapists’ baby to full term. That’s devaluing to you.

Hey, maybe you think government should be smaller. Maybe you don’t like the individual mandate in Obamacare. There are all kinds of political issues you can be on the right side of the fence about and not be voting to condemn your own gender to more inequality. But I submit this question to you, and you can feel free to let it sink in before you answer.

Is any society truly great if the plurality of its citizens are paid less, given less freedom with their own bodies, and pressured into not striving to achieve everything in life that they want?
