Need some DU help QUICK pls!

I have a Facebook friend spouting the line that Obama had two years with a Dem majority in Congress to clean up Bush's mess. I know he only had a working majority for a very short time frame, but I can't recall the specifics. Can someone here refresh me or give me a link pls? I know I've seen this on DU but can't find it. Would appreciate!

3. 7/09 – 8/09 – 60-40 – Technical Super Majority, but since Kennedy is unable to vote, the Democrats can’t overcome a filibuster

Depending upon which metric is used, Democrats had a super majority for roughly six months which includes the seven weeks between Franken’s swearing-in on July 8 to Ted Kennedy’s death on August 25 and the four months and nine days between Paul Kirk’s swearing-in on September 25, 2009 to his replacement by Scott Brown on February 4, 2010. This was just barely enough time to pass the biggest and most difficult health care legislation in generations; an event that would likely never have happened under any other circumstances. This also happened under the onslaught of every procedural obstruction the Republicans could put in its path.

Byrd's and Kennedy's illnesses. Then Kennedy's seat went Repig and the chance at 60 seats was gone. Seems to me it was 59-40, then 58-41 for a while. With less than 60 Dem seats, the Repigs could fillibuster at will.

have that much time to do much. we should be glad he got the ACA passed because he couldn't do it any other way or any better. Come to think of it Byrd was sick most of that time too. Saying he had 2 years of democratic rule is stretching it. Besides bush had 6 years of repub rule to fuck things up.

After you have your ducks in a row, maybe you can emphasize the point that you are trying to make by providing a link to the "Moat with alligators in it" video. Carefully, however, lest he use it against you.

Your friend can complain that Obama has not cleaned up Bush's mess fast enough ... but Romney would reinstate Bush's policies and create the SAME MESS.

Also .. try this ... if your FB friend voted for Bush twice ... which I suspect they did ... tell them they can repay their personal debt to America by sitting out 2 elections.
