Ann Romney: Women Didn't Care About The Great Recession (That Was Men's Work)

Women Didn’t Care About the Great Recession?

What is it with the Romneys’ stereotypically backward view of women?

Via David Badash we learn of Mrs. Romney’s recent appearance on The View. It set women back a few decades:

Ann Romney: 4 Years Ago, When Markets Collapsed, Women Were Less Focused On The Economy

Ann Romney claims that four years ago women were less concerned about the economy than they are today, despite the fact that the worldwide financial collapse took place exactly four years and one month ago this week.“It’s heart-breaking, what women are talking to me about now. Four years ago, there were a lot of other issues on the table. This year, it’s nearly 90 — I would say, 95% of what I hear from women, is, ‘help. Please, help’.”

“Economic help?” Barbara Walters asks. “Absolutely,” Ann Romney responds.

.................

Maybe in Romneyland “women” didn’t care about the economy in November of 2008, but “the women” I know, and the men too, were pretty freaking terrified about the entire economy plunging head first into an abyss. The concern wasn’t exactly gender specific.

Unlike Ann Romney, I've worked all my life AND raised 2 kids w/o a nanny, Grandparents, Aunts or Uncles. My husband and I have done it on our own thank you very much.

I was scared shitless in 08. Every week that fall a new group of people were getting let go at my place of work. You never knew walking in if you were going to be greeted with a security guard and a box to pack your stuff up. She needs to shut the hell up and go back to her dancing ponies.

She DOES INDEED need to shut up and go - well - AWAY. I've NEVER in my life seen anyone that smug. Male OR female. Much less a public figure that presumes to be seeking to connect with the "little people." Leona Helmsley - you reincarnated?

Anyway - good to have you here. We need you, and our President needs you too.

Now get to work.

We do our own budgets & pay our own bills. This is 2012. Many of us got laid off between 2001 and now. I know several. Many of us, such as myself, are single parents. Why would women be less concerned than men about economy? Oh yeah. What does she know? She doesn't work. Queen Ann, go have a seat.

It sure is easy to not be concerned about the economy when you don't have to think twice about how much your family's groceries cost, or the salaries of the employees who purchase the groceries and cook the dinner for you.
