I will probably get roasted for this but I am honoring my wife's request.
We basically live across the state line from the Area where Paul Ryan did that Photo Op. You also have probably seen the Threads saying how since Ryan's insult on common sense that the soup kitchen is suffering. Donations are REALLY down.

If you have it to give and you can see past the religious side --can you donate or give a word of support?

(14,487 posts)I wanted them to know that an Obama supporter was supporting them. I didn't do this because of you or your wife. I did it before I saw your post.

(10,337 posts)If I read this correctly, the OP is concerned the SVDP is first and formost a religious foundation and seems to be expressing reluctance to support them as such. I may be interpreting this incorrectly and if that is the case, I apoligise.
i am an Athiest. Have been since my early teens but I have had extensive experience with SVDP and have nothing but the highest respect for them.
My formative years were spent as a white, welfare brat in San Francisco. I was being raised by a single mother along with my two siblings in the Fillmore district of San Francisco when the Fillmore was a ghetto. SVDP was like going to Nordstrums for me. The people who worked there ALLWAYS treated me with respect. As a pre-pubescent, I often went there to buy books because I loved to read. Etched in my memory are the times when I didn't have the money to pay for all the books I wanted to buy and how, suddenly, there was a "sale" that allowed me to take home the books I had selected for the few pennies I had. Robinson Caruso among them. Never, not once, did anyone try to push their Religious views on me.
Looking back, at the age of 62, and as an athiest, I have nothing but the greatist respect for SVDP. In my mind, they exemplified what being a Christian is supposed to mean. They didn't tell me how Christian they were, they showed me.
